The line graphs show the proportion of families in a specific

country that owned three types of domestic electrical appliances
between 1920 and 2019 and the time they allocated for doing
household chores per week in the same time period.
Percentage = proportion
Spent = allocated
Overall, it is readily apparent that all electrical appliances
became more popular, in particular refrigerator and vacuum cleaner.
The total time spent on doing housework declined dramatically and
steadily in the last one hundred years. (over the same time period)
Among the three electrical appliances, refrigerators showed the
most significant rise, beginning at just over 0% in 1920, and surged
rapidly to over 50% in 1940, and then continued to rise steadily until
plateaued at 100% in 1980. Vacuum cleaners started higher at 30% in
1920 and then rose by approximated 20% every 20 years until became
90% in 1960. The percentage continued grew and ultimately reached
100% by 2000. In contrast, the ownership of washing machines began
at the highest proportion of 40% in 1920, climbed to 70% by 1960,
then felt slightly to over 60% in 1980, and recovered with a slight
increase to over 70% in 2019. (gradual incline)
The total amount of time spent on household chores such as
washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning fell steadily from 50
hours a week in 1920 to 20 hours a week by 1980. After that, the
decline was more gradual, dropped to slightly above 10 hours by
2019.

The diagram depicted how sugar is made from the sugar cane
plants.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that
this natural and man-made process involving 3 main stages that begin
with initial harvesting, followed by a chemical transformation and
finally separation into the end product of sugar.
Sugar cane plants are harvested from the field when they are
about one to one and a half years old. The harvesting of sugar cane
plane is either manually by human labourers or by using machines.
After that, the sugar cane stalks are crushed in a grinder and resulted
in the formation of raw sugar cane juice.
In the fourth step, the juice is then run through a limestone filter
for the purification purpose. The purified juice is then poured into an
evaporator. From there, the juice is heated and turned into syrup form.
The syrup is then separated from the sugar crystals by using a
centrifuge. In the final step, the sugar crystals are dried and cooled to
its final form as sugar.

The diagrams depict the present construction of Southwest
Airport and plans for its renovation next year.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that
the number of gates will be greatly expand and there will be a variety
of customer-facing facilities added, including shops, car hire, and an
ATM.
The location of the departures and arrivals entrance will remain
the same but there are plans to install additional doors. Upon entering
the airport, there is currently a single check-in counter at the left-hand
side and a café in the middle. The future plan is moving the check-in
counter to the middle of the mall in order to make room for a bag drop
area. The café will be repositioned to the left corner in the departures
hall. The arrival hall will affix a café, an ATM machine, and a car hire
that necessitates expanding the size of the building.
The security, passport control and customs will remain
unchanged. However, the future plan shows shops immediately upon
exiting the security section of departure hall. The largest proposed
alterations are replacing the walkway with a long sky train track and
constructing two branching corridors to add ten more gates for the
passengers (8 gates at the moment and 18 gates after renovation).

The process diagrams detail how plastic bottles are recycled.

Overall, there are nine steps starting with bottles being thrown
into trash bin and ended with products being made from recycled
plastic.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that this circular process is
comprised of 3 main stages including initial collection and sorting, followed by processing
and cleaning, and finally reconstitution into a novel material for further usage.

The first three steps involved collecting and sorting plastic. This
starts with plastic bottles being thrown into garbage bins. Then, these
garbage bins will be collected by garbage trucks and sent to recycling
centre. In recycling centre, these plastic bottles are sorted by hand into
bottles that can be recycled and bottles that cannot.
The next step is compressing the recyclable plastic bottles
tightly to form blocks. These blocks are then crushed into small
pieces and transfer into a tank where they are washed. Subsequently,
these cleaned plastic pieces are put into a machine that transforms
them into pellets. Next, plastic pellets are heated and turned into raw
materials that suitable for making plastic products. These raw
materials are used in manufacture plastic products ranging from
clothes and bottles to containers and pencils. Some of these finished
goods may end up being thrown into trash cans and re-entering the
recycling process.

In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in
finding out about the history of the house or building they live in.
What are the reasons for this? How can people research this?
It is commonly believed that there’s a growing trend whereby
residents are getting more interested in learning about the background of
their place of residence. This essay discusses some of the motives for this
as well as how people can unearth this kind of information.
There are two main reasons for this phenomenon. The primary one is
due to the concern over potential building problems. Older house may
have employed unsafe procedures or materials that will degrade, creating
the risk of structural damage and, in the worst cases, collapse. By learning
the house and period it was built, residents can take necessary steps to
ensure the house is in structurally sound. Another factor is due to nature
curiosity. Many people wonder about who was lived in their house in the
past and how they adapted with neighbourhood. By learning this, they
might find it would be easing their life and able to establish a faster
connection to fit into the local circle.
There are few methods to discover the history of a building. The
most effective one is to check the public records. From these records, we
are able to determine the when the building was built by, how many
families had been settled down there in the past, and blueprints of the
structural integrity of the construction. Another effective method is to
simply ask the elderly in their neighbourhood. Many senior citizens have
lived in the same neighbourhood all their lives. They have witnessed
people coming and leaving. Talking to them can definitely helps one
uncover some intriguing stories of the places where they live.
In conclusion, the main reasons why people are interested in
discovering the background of their place of residence are due to concern
over the structural soundness of the premises as well as natural curiosity.
The possible ways to find out this information are to search public records
or simply have some small talks with their neighbours.

IELTS 16 Writing Task 2 Test 2

In their advertising, businesses nowadays usually emphasise that their
products are new in some way.
Why is this? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
- Ultimate aim is to subtly persuade people to buy things
- Create artificial wants
- Negative development. Unnecessary spending
It is becoming increasingly common for companies to place focus on the
novelty on their products. I believe the reason behind this is because it can help
them beat their competitors in the saturated market. This should be seen as a
positive development because new features are there to respond to customers’
new needs.
No matter what product a company sell, there are always hundreds of
similar one exists on the market that customer can choose from. Hence, what
strategy can a company developed to increase their chances of staying ahead of
their competitors? Well, company will inform their target customers through its
marketing that their products are more innovative in certain ways and are
different from any other similar products out there. This eventually grabs people
attention and ultimately persuade people to make a purchase. For instance, in an
iPhone commercial advertisement, Apple clearly highlights the message that the
latest version of iOS allows users to disable cross-app tracking. This new
feature which no other smartphones have can definitely help Apple to attract
more customers since people are more concerned about their online privacy
nowadays.
In one hand, I believe this phenomenon is highly beneficial to customers
as they become more informed shoppers. By having the information about a
product unique and novel feature in their hands, customers are able to make the
product comparisons and choose the exact products that best suits their
circumstances. Moreover, the majority of the customers today do not like to
remain satisfied with the same kinds of products that offer same kind of ‘value’.
They tend to try on the latest trend of new technology. The companies also
know this too well, hence always emphasize the new features of their products
to meet their customer’s demand.
In conclusion, companies are choosing to advertise the new features of
their products as a way of convincing shoppers to purchase their products. This
is a win-win situation as it is leading to more informed consumers who are
making better purchasing decisions whereas companies are able to boost their
sales.

Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which
causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to
encourage people to consume less sugar.
Do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, excessive consumption of sugary products has become a
critical problem which obviously leads to serious health problems such as
diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. To overcome this issue, some people
suggest these high sugary products should be made more expensive to
encourage the nation to consume less sugar whilst others oppose it. In my
opinion, I totally agree with it since it may eventually mitigate the problem.
This essay will shed light on both views in the upcoming paragraphs before stating any opinion.

Expensive goods are less popular among customers. In fact, most

individuals are only interested in buying less expensive or affordable foods and
beverages. Take the most famous carbonated drink in this world “Coca-Cola” as
example, they usually make sure that their products are much cheaper than other
available drinks on the market. If governments decide to impose higher tax on
such sugary products, the manufacture companies will have to increase the price
of their product and eventually customers will need to bear the expense. As a
result, customers will always think twice before putting those sugary products
into their shopping trolleys after seeing the price tags.
On the other hand, by increasing the price of unhealthy snacks and drinks,
the authorities can indirectly give some pressure to the manufacturing
companies to think for alternative ways to maintain the profit gained. For
instance, many leading manufacturers in food and drinks industries have been
focusing more on invent new product that contain no sugar, but still taste similar
to the original products. This is somehow a win-win situation as it helps
companies maintain their sales while customers can enjoy beverages without
worrying for consuming too much sugar.
In conclusion, high sugar consumption has become a critical issue in
many nations owing to the increase health problems among people. One of the
solutions to tackle this problem would be implementing higher tax on these
sugary product as it will encourage people to choose alternative foods and
companies to produce healthy foods.

IELTS 16 Writing Task 2 Test 4

In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling
inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
With the rapid technology development, driverless vehicles are
becoming reality in near future. Within a couple of decades, all vehicles
will be automated, drivers will no longer significant and there will be only
passengers in the vehicles. From my point of view, this phenomenon
provides more benefits than drawbacks.
The possible downside of automated vehicles pertained (related) to
the technology itself. Since they are running and controlled with software
technology, the risk of devasting accidents due to bugs or hacking could
not be eliminated. Hackers could take control on the vehicles and use them
for nefarious (immoral) purposes. An accident that resulted in an innocent
woman passed away, caused by a driverless car while still in beta mode,
caused a great uproar few years ago. Moreover, not all roads are suitable
for automated car to run smoothly, especially in poor nation, a human
driver is more suitable in driving on such roads with ditches, holes, and
insufficient road signs.
On the other hand, there are a great number of advantages of shifting
from conventional automobiles to automated vehicles. First of all, it
reduces the number of car accidents. The fact is true that many car
accidents were reported by the mistakes done by irresponsible and drunk
driver. If we move to the self-driving process, it would help to enhance
safety of the road users. Folk can travel safely when they are sleepy
because they will not have to drive themselves. Furthermore, the stress of
a long drive can be avoided, people who would have been drivers can now
relax during a journey. For instance, they can watch movies or interact
with their friends while travelling.
In conclusion, although there are few software-related issues
happened with driverless automobiles but there are also tremendous
advantages with this marvellous technology and I believe it creates
positive impact on human lives in terms of more leisure time and the
safety of the road.
