BUSINESS

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Nature and Background of The Study

Thinly sliced food that has been fried until it is crunchy is referred to as a chip. People of all ages

turn to this as their preferred snack choice for various occasions. But as people have become more health

conscious, vegetable chips have become increasingly popular. This is crunchy, salty, and produced with

farm-fresh ingredients that are chopped up and lightly cooked.

5P's is a business that will offer a healthier variety of snacks in the form of squash chips. Squash

has several nutrients that are suitable for human consumption such as Potassium (K), Phosphorus (P),

Magnesium (Mg), Iron (Fe), and Selenium (Se) (Escarez, Magsino, & De Castro, 2018). This nutritious

squash chip is a more healthful option or substitute for the common potato chip or any other kind of chip.

These products will be produced using farm-fresh ingredients with less carbs and salt in its production.

The business aims to provide delicious, healthy, and affordable snacks to customers. It seeks to not only

satiate their cravings, but also provide a new and healthy snack alternative that can benefit their body. The

squash chips also are for the purpose of addressing the prevalent problem of eating junk food which will

also encourage the people especially the young people to eat healthy snacks. With the production and

selling of squash fries, the business will be able to establish a relationship not only with its customers but

also with the stakeholders.


A feasibility study will be carried out to confirm the viability of establishing 5P's. The target

markets for the study will be the students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders at Visayas State University-

Main Campus. The community will benefit from the introduction of a new affordable and nutritious snack

alternative attributable to its products. It is also beneficial for those who are looking for a nutritious snack

that will satisfy their cravings and fit into their diet. Additionally, businesses in the agricultural sectors

can gain from promoting a quick, healthy meal that also supports nearby farmers through making these

health chips available to consumers. The research will significantly help farmers and prospective business

owners, sometimes known as entrepreneurs, by creating new opportunities and collaborations. Thus,

producing and distributing squash chips locally will not only encourage the locals to consume nutritious

snacks, but also give the community members a new source of money and employment.

Significance of The Study

This study's findings will further reveal the viability of establishing 5P's squash chips production

business in Visayas State University-Main Campus. Also, the results of this study will be of great benefit

to the following:

 Potential customers: They are referring to the university's students, faculty, staff, and

stakeholders, who are regarded as its primary customers. This study's findings will assist

consumers find a low-cost, high-nutritional snack that not only satisfies their desires but also

offers a healthful alternative to other unhealthy snacks.

 Health-conscious individuals: In this study, it will be revealed how nutritious squash chips are

and why they provide a good alternative to unhealthy snacks. In comparison to traditional chips,

which are sometimes viewed as junk food, they will be able to compare and contrast the

nutritional advantages of this alternative snack.


 Farmers: Squash producers will be able to learn more from this study about the likelihood of

starting a business of this nature. They will be able to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of

serving as this firm's raw material supplier. It will help them make decisions and determine

whether or not this project will present them with an opportunity.

 Proponents of the study: The results of this study will be able to demonstrate to the proponents

whether it would be feasible to establish 5P’s, a business producing squash chips at Visayas State

University-Main Campus. It will increase awareness of prospective issues that could influence the

company's establishment and what areas need to be handled or enhanced. The results will also

reveal whether this veggie snack alternative is accepted by university stakeholders such as

students, faculty, staff, and others.

 Future researchers: This study will serve as a reference for researchers on the subject of research

in the field of operations. This will act as a guide for developing the research and making the

connection to the factors employed.

Objectives of The Study

The objective of the study is to determine the viability of establishing 5P’s, a squash chips

production business in Visayas State University-Main Campus. It seeks to fully comprehend community

market demand. The study also intends to introduce and provide an affordable and healthy alternative

snack to the constituents of the university.

Scope and Limitations of The Study

The scopes of this feasibility study are the students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders of Visayas

State University-Main Campus in Visca, Baybay City, Leyte. This study is limited on the availability of
primary data from surveys and actual product sales. Direct sales and online orders from customers within

the specified location will be accepted for those who desire to buy the product.
