Daily Math

Meaningful cumulative review for

EVERY day of the school year

Created by Christine Newell, 2013

Newell's Nook
This is the next step of my Daily Number Line math routine! Students complete these two pages of Daily Math on
alternating days which makes for meaningful cumulative review in a manageable amount of time, about 15-20 minutes a
day. I copy the graphic organizer back-to-back and have students place it in a clear plastic sleeve, so they can write on /
wipe off with a white board marker each day. For the first week or so of transition to this Daily Math routine, I
photocopy the graphic organizer and we complete it together. The modeled version is then placed in students' math folder
so they can refer to it in the future if needed. This graphic organizer is NOT "busy work!" When used in conjunction with
high quality, CCSS-based first instruction, this tool will help your students build fluency in grade level skills.
Continue to count the school days out of 100 (see my Daily Number Line materials for more information about this),
and place the school day number anywhere on the graphic organizer where you see a . Complete the activities on the
first page of the graphic organizer using this number. Topics on the first page include:

Odd / even Prime/composite Factors Arrays

Function tables Linear equations Number line Multiples
Fractions Decimals Percents
You will need to come up with an equation of the day and the increments you'd like students to use on the number line each
day you use this page, and post it on your Daily Math wall (see pgs. 5-8 of the document for templates... I laminate these
so I can change them as needed).
For the second page of the graphic organizer, you still use the school day number ( ), but you also turn the
date into a "big number" (idea from Stephanie Moorman)... for example, you might take September 24, 2013, and turn it
into 9,242.13 (with our without decimals, depending on your grade level). Students work with this "big number" for
practice with the following skills:

Standard form Word form Expanded form Rounding

Powers of 10 Addition/Subtraction Multiplication/Division
Students will still use the school day number ( ) for:
Prime Factorization Fractions Decimals Percents
You will need to come up with a "big number", and daily addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. These
are meant to be flexible so you can apply them to whatever you are studying (whole numbers, decimals, fractions,
integers, etc;). See pgs. 5-8 of this document for templates to post on your Daily Math wall (again, I laminate these so I
can write on them with a white board marker and change them as needed). Enjoy! :)
