CANFORD LAUNCH SEVERAL
NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Celebrating 40 years in business, Canford continues to innovate
Following strategic investment, Canford is launching their new fibre termination facility, which will be located at their
Washington UK headquarters and promise a number of other product developments for IBC 2016.
Stephen Gallagher, Marketing Manager explains: “IBC is an incredibly important exhibition for Canford and we’re delighted to be
announcing several new products and services. Most significant is our new fibre termination service with which we’ll deliver a short
lead-time service for the termination of LEMO, Neutrik and other fibre connectors, for situations where speed is of the essence”.
Project lead, and Head of Design John Driver added: “Our
new fibre termination service is a natural progression of
Canford’s UK manufacturing capability and demonstrates
the company’s tenacity to evolve with new technology. The
ability to provide customers with a qualified and speedy fibre
termination service further extends our ability to produce
ready-made and custom cable assemblies”.
The extensive family of Canford Mains Distribution Units
receives a new addition too. Designed and manufactured
in-house, the new model incorporates an LCD current
meter. The display provides system integrators the ability to
quickly monitor overall current draw, identify and resolve any
overloading issues.
Also manufactured by Canford is the Fibre Field Termination
Rackmount Case, designed to facilitate a fast, easy and
effective solution for installing hybrid fibre connectors on site,
eliminating the need for pre-terminated cable assemblies. The
boxes come complete with up to 8 x Lemo 3K.93C EDW or
FMW cable assemblies pre-fitted in either a flat or angled 2U
front panel.
The SMPTE cable enters the chassis via rear cable glands and
the strain relief is secured to the clamping post. The electrical
cables are then terminated directly to the AMP connector
provided on the internal bulkhead. The fibre cables terminate
directly to the SC coupler on the same bulkhead using SENKO
XP Fit Plus connectors or alternatively via SC tails which are
spliced to the incoming fibre using the integral splice tray.
This system not only provides improved protection to both
the electrical and fibre connections which are secured within
the case but also allows for quick and easy replacement or
repair of any failed SMPTE connectors.
There’s also the new Green-GO DECT wireless intercom
which interfaces seamlessly with the existing digital wired
intercom, providing high quality, low latency audio with robust
RF coverage.

Angled termination panels, supplied fully populated with Neutrik ‘D’ series XLR
connectors. Three combinations of 3-pin XLR male and latching female connectors
are available as standard, all have nickel-plated shells and silver-plated contacts and are
mounted from the rear of the panel.
Standard types have connectors fitted directly into the panel so are nominally
insulated from the panel by the powder coating, but they cannot be classed as
either insulated or earthed. The fully-earthed types have an exposed metal area 48-4042
on the rear of the panel under each star washer and mounting nut, giving a guaranteed
earth connection between each connector and the panel. They are also fitted with an earthing stud
for common connection to a technical earthing point. Connectors fitted with fully insulating washers
may also be supplied to special order.
Flat Panels
Flush or flat versions have a horizontal connector mating axis.
The Neutrik bantam jacks are set at ‘stereo-pitch’ (paired) or ‘mono-pitch’ (equally spaced) in two
rows of 48 in a 1U panel. They are arranged in continuous rows of 48, two groups of 24 or six groups of 8
to aid channel identification. Jacks are 5-point, palladium-contact type with a heavy duty nickel-plated frame and
front ring to ensure a long and reliable operational life.
Screened
Supplied fully populated with feed-through (also known as double-sided or
back-to-back) screened RJ45 CAT6A sockets enabling system patching and easy
connection of portable or external equipment. A printable designation-strip with
snap-on cover and a lacing-bar are fitted as standard.

Designed for engineers to provide swift but rigorous fault investigation, either
on site or in the workshop, the Test Lab was conceived in the field by DACS
installation engineers and developed by the company’s design team to address
the tests they needed to solve technical issues which arose during installation
and live sound projects. Further optimised after input from audio professionals, the
result is a portable test unit operated by battery or AC power where available.
Tests include cable and signal path integrity of both remote and local signals using an LED bargraph and
loudspeaker; correct wiring of cable connectors by cycling through pins to reveal open, shorted or reversed connections. The
inbuilt signal generator can send low distortion tone at three frequencies or pink noise to external units. The power inlet provides
an indication of the presence and voltage of the AC supply; illumination is provided for soldering or checking connectors.
The Test Lab is constructed in a rugged steel case with a non-slip base, 168 x 130 x 58 (l x w x h)mm.The majority of controls and
connectors are on the upper surface. The centre of this surface is dominated with two columns of LEDs which show audio output
and input levels on the two banks of connectors which flank the LEDs. Above the columns, a row of three LEDs show if the unit
is running off the internal battery, 110V AC or 240V AC. At the lower end of the columns a rotary control adjusts the output level
from the signal generator, and below that are two columns of three LEDs which are used for the cable testing mode . Below these
is the rotary ‘Mode’ switch.
On the left, the first output connector choices are a pair of terminals with sockets for 4mm plugs and a Neutrik NL4MD Speakon
connection. Both these are fed by a power amplifier capable of driving four ohm loudspeakers. Further output connectors are an
isolated RCA (phono) socket, a three-pin, male XLR and a 3-pole, 6.35mm jack socket. Input choices on the right are Speakon,
isolated RCA (phono) socket, and a three-pin, female XLR combined with a 3-pole, 6.35mm jack socket.
