CANFORD LAUNCH SEVERAL
NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Celebrating 40 years in business, Canford continues to innovate
Following strategic investment, Canford is launching their new fibre termination facility, which will be located at their
Washington UK headquarters and promise a number of other product developments for IBC 2016.
Stephen Gallagher, Marketing Manager explains: “IBC is an incredibly important exhibition for Canford and we’re delighted to be
announcing several new products and services. Most significant is our new fibre termination service with which we’ll deliver a short
lead-time service for the termination of LEMO, Neutrik and other fibre connectors, for situations where speed is of the essence”.
Project lead, and Head of Design John Driver added: “Our
new fibre termination service is a natural progression of
Canford’s UK manufacturing capability and demonstrates
the company’s tenacity to evolve with new technology. The
ability to provide customers with a qualified and speedy fibre
termination service further extends our ability to produce
ready-made and custom cable assemblies”.
The extensive family of Canford Mains Distribution Units
receives a new addition too. Designed and manufactured
in-house, the new model incorporates an LCD current
meter. The display provides system integrators the ability to
quickly monitor overall current draw, identify and resolve any
overloading issues.
Also manufactured by Canford is the Fibre Field Termination
Rackmount Case, designed to facilitate a fast, easy and
effective solution for installing hybrid fibre connectors on site,
eliminating the need for pre-terminated cable assemblies. The
boxes come complete with up to 8 x Lemo 3K.93C EDW or
FMW cable assemblies pre-fitted in either a flat or angled 2U
front panel.
The SMPTE cable enters the chassis via rear cable glands and
the strain relief is secured to the clamping post. The electrical
cables are then terminated directly to the AMP connector
provided on the internal bulkhead. The fibre cables terminate
directly to the SC coupler on the same bulkhead using SENKO
XP Fit Plus connectors or alternatively via SC tails which are
spliced to the incoming fibre using the integral splice tray.
This system not only provides improved protection to both
the electrical and fibre connections which are secured within
the case but also allows for quick and easy replacement or
repair of any failed SMPTE connectors.
There’s also the new Green-GO DECT wireless intercom
which interfaces seamlessly with the existing digital wired
intercom, providing high quality, low latency audio with robust
RF coverage.

BNC 3G HD TERMINATION PANELS
3Gb/s 1080p HDTV, 1.5Gb/s 1080i HDTV, SDTV, Analogue
and Unbalanced 75ohm AES Audio
These “High Definition” 75 ohm panels are intended for 3G and 1.5G high definition, standard
definition and analogue video applications. The performance exceeds the requirements of SMPTE292M
and SMPTE424M making them suitable for composite and component video, 270 Mb/s SDI and
uncompressed 1080i or 1080p HD-SDI video up to 3Gb/s. They are supplied
fully-populated with Canford insulated, double-sided, “High Definition”, 75 ohm, 48-4207
BNC sockets, equally spaced across the panel.
The need to minimise the supporting PTFE insulator in the construction makes
them less robust than the “normal” 75 ohm types; the “normal” type is therefore the
preferred choice for routine SDI and unbalanced AES digital audio applications; the 50 ohm
type is recommended for analogue use only, see separate entries.

COAX CONNECTORS DIN 1.0/2.3 CONNECTORS

Push-pull coupling, sub-miniature, ‘true 75 ohm’ coaxial connectors for use with high density routers. This redesign of the
original DIN style connector, using precision components impedance matched to 75 ohms, make it suitable for 3G HD-SDI
and frequencies up to 3GHz. The centre and outer mating contacts are gold-plated; the latching outer body is nickel-plated.
The centre contact is crimped with a conventional ‘plier’ type square cavity crimp tool and the outer braid is secured with a
hexagonally crimped sleeve.
A centre-contact alignment tool is included in each 100pc bulk pack and can be ordered separately
for individually packed connectors.
The DIN 1.0/2.3 series is used to achieve a very high density of connections on equipment
rear-panels and thus requires the use of the dedicated slim-line removal tool to release the mating
latch and to un-mate the connector.

CANFORD DEPLOYABLE CATEGORY 6
Data Stranded Conductor Cable
Increasing use of network and data cables between audio and video devices on location calls
for a Category 6 cable that is designed specifically for deployable use. Basic Category 6 UTP
is a relatively inflexible installation cable, and even the slightly more flexible patchcord type still
has very poor handling characteristics in deployed (as opposed to patching) applications. This
Category 6 cable has been designed specifically for the professional audio and video user, and
is intended to handle like a typical microphone cable. It has an extra-flexible four-pair core
31-870
structure that maintains Category 6 performance, then a special soft PVC composite material
outer jacket, to give superb flexibility and handling characteristics.
It is suitable for use with both standard RJ45 connectors (round entry version), the Neutrik Ethercon and most other ruggedised
RJ45 designs, or any other connector with a suitably sized entry gland. The cable is also suitable for DMX512 applications.

CAT6 SHIELDED
DRAKA Category 6 U/FTP 4 twisted pair solid conductor cable, patented foil
wrapping of two pairs 1 & 2, 3 & 4, Low Fire Hazard jacket (LSHF). Also available
as a Category 6 S/FTP 4 twisted pair solid conductor cable, patented foil wrapping
of two pairs 1 & 2, 3 & 4, with overall Braid, Low Fire Hazard jacket (LSHF).

DACS TEST LAB - AUDIO TEST BOX 25-1001

Designed for engineers to provide swift but rigorous fault investigation, either
on site or in the workshop, the Test Lab was conceived in the field by DACS
installation engineers and developed by the company’s design team to address
the tests they needed to solve technical issues which arose during installation
and live sound projects. Further optimised after input from audio professionals, the
result is a portable test unit operated by battery or AC power where available.
Tests include cable and signal path integrity of both remote and local signals using an LED bargraph and
loudspeaker; correct wiring of cable connectors by cycling through pins to reveal open, shorted or reversed connections. The
inbuilt signal generator can send low distortion tone at three frequencies or pink noise to external units. The power inlet provides
an indication of the presence and voltage of the AC supply; illumination is provided for soldering or checking connectors.
The Test Lab is constructed in a rugged steel case with a non-slip base, 168 x 130 x 58 (l x w x h)mm.The majority of controls and
connectors are on the upper surface. The centre of this surface is dominated with two columns of LEDs which show audio output
and input levels on the two banks of connectors which flank the LEDs. Above the columns, a row of three LEDs show if the unit
is running off the internal battery, 110V AC or 240V AC. At the lower end of the columns a rotary control adjusts the output level
from the signal generator, and below that are two columns of three LEDs which are used for the cable testing mode . Below these
is the rotary ‘Mode’ switch.
On the left, the first output connector choices are a pair of terminals with sockets for 4mm plugs and a Neutrik NL4MD Speakon
connection. Both these are fed by a power amplifier capable of driving four ohm loudspeakers. Further output connectors are an
isolated RCA (phono) socket, a three-pin, male XLR and a 3-pole, 6.35mm jack socket. Input choices on the right are Speakon,
isolated RCA (phono) socket, and a three-pin, female XLR combined with a 3-pole, 6.35mm jack socket.

CANFORD PLASTIC CABLE TRAY
These slot-punched, plastic, cable trays provide a very economical and completely non-corrodible system
for cable installations, the system being designed to reduce labour costs on site to a minimum. The tray can
be cut with an ordinary saw, holes can be drilled with ordinary hand drills, and no sharp edges are left after
cutting. They are manufactured from rigid, unplasticised black PVC, self-extinguishing and non-flammable for
all practical purposes.
The cable tray is supplied in 2 metre lengths, height 17mm, in a choice of two widths - 105mm and 180mm.
The tray thickness is approximately 2.8mm. Matching fixing brackets are available.
These products are manufactured using Canford’s own tooling. Other lengths and colours are available
to special order, subject to a minimum of 500 metres per size/colour.
