Most of the candidates who attempted this question did well
on questions “a” and “b”
For question “a” the Bible has only one reason hence it need
candidates to critically think.
Questions “c” required applied knowledge which was not easy
for most of the learners. i.e. to relate the meaning of Marah
and why Naomi changed her name to Marah.
The question was also framed from a very long passage Ruth
1v 1 – 22 which was a challenge for candidates to recall.
Questions 22
It was another less popular question.
The passage from which it was taken was also long.
A few students were able to bring the correct answers, for
question “a”
For question 22b candidates failed to use the correct word
from the good News Bible “displaced” instead they used sad or
angry.
For question 22c most candidates left it blank as they failed to

However, some simply wrote the punishment pronounced by
God on how the demanded King was going to treat the people.

Those who attempted it scored good marks
However a few candidates confused the baptism and
transfiguration events.
For question “C”, the candidates were left in a dilemma as to
whether question “C” was a follow up to question 23 b or it
was a standalone question.
The responses indicated that it was a standalone question.
Question 24
It was a popular question
Candidates were not given enough lines for question 24b.
Question 24c was well answered by the candidates possibly
because it is a contemporary issue and most students applied
it well.
Question 25
It was a less popular question and student’s performance was
por.
The performance could be attributed to less coverage of the
syllabus.
Question 26
This was an easy question and candidates were supposed to
use bullets in presenting the responses.
Most candidates performed well and were able to describe how
Moses was rescued.
The terminologies used by the learners were not very good as
required by the question.

Question 27
It was another essay question that demanded learners to
recall.
Most candidates did not perform well on this question.
This could be attributed to poor coverage of the syllabus and
specification of the miracles of Jesus.
RECOMMENDATION
A. To Ministry of Education
The Ministry should help provide enough learning
resources most especially, Good News Bibles.
Bible Knowledge is a hands on subject and learners
need much reading of the Bible.
The Ministry should help reinforce the teaching of
Bible Knowledge in schools through headteachers who
at times underrate the subject.
The Ministry should continue training more Bible
Knowledge teachers to uphold the quality of
performance of students.
B. To Curriculum Developers
The syllabus for JCE Bible Knowledge has to be
reviewed to provide boundaries of the success criteria
on each topic. E.g. Describe the importance of events
in the life of the patriarchs is too crude as a success
criteria and has to be broken down.
4
C. TO SCHOOLS
School administrators should not underrate the
importance of Bible Knowledge on morality of the
school and discipline.
Administrators should help allocate the recommended
time for Bible Knowledge.
Schools should put a deliberate effort to motivate Bible
Knowledge teachers e.g inset at cluster level.
Administrators should monitor syllabus coverage in
schools.
Awards should be given to all teachers for good
performance disregarding the subjects.
Chief examiners reports should be issued to teachers.
