value to the PGP peer group through your personal and professional qualities/capabilities? (400 words max)

I was a leader for project Unnati, which was the women empowerment wing of the BITS Pilani NGO, Nirmaan. During
my tenure there, I led a team of 25 volunteers for 6 months to work towards setting up a Self Help group for women
beneficiaries from Pilani. Our project aimed at making women financially independent by enabling them with skills like
stitching, making sanitary pads and home decor items. Given the fact that the women were already learning skills
through a partnership with instructors, there was a need to put together their earnings in a safer fund, from where the
women could draw a loan, since there would be times the beneficiaries would need an amount of money due to some
crisis. I realized that a Self Help group would be a great idea to help them do that. With my discussions with team
volunteers, we came to a consensus that a Self Help Group can not only fulfill their loan requirements at a lower rate
of interest, but it can also provide them with other benefits enlisted by the government like giving access to markets
for their products.

This pivotal experience gave me an opportunity to implement creative ideas to help our beneficiaries. In the process, I
became sensitive to the problems of loans and financial independence among the underprivileged sections of the
society, and realized I would want to be involved in social impact.

Apart from this, I bring with myself the ability to convert ideas into tangible action. Having implemented new initiatives
in my hostel regarding the welfare of the students as a Hostel Representative (elected by 800+ residents) for a year
long tenure, like changing the food vendor, installing sanitary napkin vending machines on my campus, making
regular newspapers accessible to students, I developed understanding of the administrative side of the institution and
how I can act as a bridge to address student problems with the administration.

My drive to come up with new ideas and implement them has been a common theme across all teams that I have
been a part of, and that is what I aim to bring to the table at ISB as well.
