Study motive:
In order to enhance my skills in continuation with the undergraduate academic achievements I need to study
masters to have the best career and work for the renowned companies. The influx of international companies in
India prompted homegrown IT companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Tech Mahindra to expand their
business to other countries, and inculcate new ideologies and processes in line with their global partners. In India,
there is a massive scope of data science and huge demand for data analysis. Data Scientist jobs have been rated as
one of the fastest growing jobs in India and top-tech giants and promising startups based in the Indian subcontinent
are hiring well-trained Data Science experts. According to a recent study, the demand for data scientists has
increased by 41.7% in the year 2018. Data Scientists, Data Architect, and Data Warehouse Manager are some of the
high paying jobs. It is currently estimated at $2.03 billion annually in revenues and is growing at a rate of 23.8% and
is expected to almost double by 2025. Since the organizations in India these days have involved data driven and
techno focused approaches, there has been a sudden rise in the big data industry in India. Therefore gaining a good
knowledge and understanding of analytical tools can lead to a promising career back in India. Therefore, by studying
Master of Information Technology with Data Science as a major I will be placed in top companies like Cognizant,
Honeywell, Oracle, Phillips, Siemens, Huawei, Ericsson Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys etc. as there is shortage of
availability of core expertise in the area and there is a huge demand for individuals with in-depth knowledge and
understanding of global markets.

Why not Masters studies in my Home country, India?

India is lacking behind in the race with a great difference as compared to leading education destinations like the USA
and Australia. M. Tech or M.E in Information Technology and Master of Technology Computer Science Engineering
programs are for two years duration offered in Osmania University, BITS Pilani, Jawaharlal Nehru Technology
University, Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad and Bangalore, Gitam University, SRM Institute of
Science and Technology, Anna University, VELS University Chennai, Delhi University, Vellore Institute of Technology
and more.

After researching about the courses offered, I came to know that to get enrolled in these universities/institutes it is
mandatory to appear for the written entrance exams like GATE, IIT JAM, BITSAT, PGCET followed by the other
selection processes including; Group discussion, Personal Interview and written ability test etc. For the same,
preparation of at least six months is required. But even after this because of caste & state-based reservation policies
and limited seats availability. Sometimes a student with higher rank get devoid of ascertaining admission in these.
But on the other hand, an international institute just requires academic and English language requirements for
admission in a course.

The fact which made my decision not to study in India is that the institutes are still based on outdated technology
and in fact the study material is also not sufficient to embark on the success of students in making their career worth
in the field of IT services. Thus, I want to spend my parent’s hard earned money in those universities which will give
my career a desired path. Another fact is that the job opportunities for Indian students are far less as compared to
international degree holders. So, after considering all the factors I decided to study overseas.

Even from my past experience, I have studied for my Bachelor’s in one of the finest institutes in India, and one thing
that I found lacking was the concurrence and permeability with actual industries that offer work to us after we have
learned the subjects. Even in India, facilities and infrastructure are not up to the mark until we have selected some
high ranked universities like IIT-Hyderabad or NIT-Warangal. Here the Library or Laboratory are not updated with
current technology and requirements. Also, student support systems like counseling, mentoring or career guidance
are not available.

Fee structure is less in Indian universities but the cost of the same is significantly high as I have to move. Hence, I
decided to expand my research a bit more and started looking at Universities in overseas. I was amazed by the
specializations they offer such as business analysis, business process management, computer science, cyber security
and networks, data science, enterprise systems, executive IT, and software development etc. In India, we are not
allowed to stress enough in Indian Universities on how to plan, conduct, analyse and interpret the results of activities
and so here we become more user-centered and to achieve our goals, tasks, and projects not as per our
understanding but based on how it makes more sense for clients in the real world. Even in India curriculum is more
theoretical study and less practical study and there are no internship options available. This course is not only about
theoretical study, it needs some real work experience which helps to understand the industry requirements. Hence, I
have decided to study overseas.

Why not other master’s studies in other countries like the USA, UK, and Canada?
I started an International search in doing Masters about which country’s education is cost effective, well recognized
with secure stay. I compared the education systems of countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia and found
that Australia is the best option for higher studies.

United States of America:

There are many reasons for not choosing the USA for my higher studies. One of the major reasons is the high tuition
fee and living expenses in the USA. Life in the USA is expensive which includes food, clothing, accommodation, and
other daily expenses requirements. I searched few universities which offers my intended program i.e. Master of
Information Technology such as University of North Texas is offering Master of Information of Technology program
for 2-year and the fee is approximately USD$ 30,420 per year, Virginia Tech offers Master of Information Technology
program for US$33,000 per year, and University of Cincinnati offers Master of Information Technology program for
US$28,972 per year. Other than that, students need to take several pre-enrolment examinations i.e., GRE besides
IELTS/PTE which are tough to crack and a very time-consuming process as it takes around 6 – 7 months of
preparation. Further, international students were not allowed to work part time during their studies in the USA and
many students have faced deportation issues despite getting their visas. Moreover, I cannot afford the living
expenses in the USA, which are around US$18,000 to US$20,000. Moreover, during research on various international
student blogs, I read many reviews about the crime in the USA which did not allow me to choose USA.

Canada:
The Canadian Universities are providing PG Diploma courses for international students which will not fetch me
expertise in the field of my interest. Western University (Ontario), University of Calgary and University of Guelph
offer Master of Computer Science with specialization in Information Technology for around CAD$30,555. Both the
USA and Canada, for Master of Information Technology and other postgraduate IT degrees have similar entry
requirements like high GRE scores and academic achievements. The tuition fee costs and living expenses in Canada
are more or less similar to that in Australia. The admission process in these universities requires more than 6 -8
months and furthermore, the weather in Canada is very harsh. During winters temperature falls below -20 degrees
with severe winds. This will affect my health as I am not used to such harsh conditions so I did not prefer Canada.

United Kingdom:
Coming to UK, universities like University of Glasgow offers MSc Information Technology program for £25,750 per
year, Heriot Watt University offers MSc Information Technology (Software Systems) program for £20,808 per year,
and University of the West England offers MSc Information Technology program for £14,250 per year. The intensive
learning is one year in the UK. The 1 year masters degrees are not recognised in India by the employers so studying
in the UK will not be beneficial for me after returning to my home country. With the current pandemic COVID-19
situation is much better in Australia as compared to the UK. As safety is everyone’s priority, I found that in the UK
crime rates are on a higher side as compared to Australia. So I preferred Australia to do my Masters. While
comparing these countries I find Australia as the perfect choice for me as it provides affordable degrees (1 AUD = INR
55.84/-) in a world class setting with state-of-art facilities with focus in enhancing international student experience
with opportunity to do internships and real-work projects. Australia also provides remarkable scholarships for
deserving international students. Australian qualifications are recognised by employers worldwide. Australia is a safe
country to study and the weather conditions are similar to India.

Why Australia?
Education in Australia has always played an important role in developing the ability of students to work effectively
and efficiently. The ambiance, guidance by the professors, the research opportunities are in full bloom and are
conducive for the perceptual growth of any student. The assured global standards of education and the value of the
certificate will be accepted as the one with top quality around the world, especially in my country, when I come back
after the course. The achievement of my goal will only be possible when I step into Australia and come back with the
required inputs to see it come true by setting up my career as an entrepreneur in my domain serving my country and
my people. There is also another possibility of getting into corporate software companies with lucrative perks and
benefits with an Australian Degree in my hand. Masters of IT at Australian universities provides integrating
Information technology with professional skills. The Australians are amongst the world's most rapid appliers of
information technology and are leaders in software and system development. Moreover, the cost of studying and
living (AU$21,041) in Australia is comparatively lower than in the USA, Canada and UK, and the security, cleanliness
and quality of lifestyle makes it an outstanding study option. Australia is the best platform to build International skills
and to practically understand the global IT needs with many Internship programs. All courses offered to international
students are registered under the CRICOS, as well as covered by the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).
Course is also professionally accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) that
guarantees that students will develop competencies at world standard. ESOS and TPS are the other measures taken
by the Australian Government bodies to provide secured education maintaining world standards. Considering few
other factors like World class teaching staff with modern facilities, Low fee structure as compared with other
countries, tropical climate, have been simplified for Visa processing I choose Australia over other destinations.
Australian IT programs are high quality, and widely recognized throughout the world. Australian universities also
have an excellent reputation for the quality of their educational programs, attracting large numbers of students from
countries in the Asia Pacific region. The strongest aspect of Australian IT institutions is the diversity of programs
available with specializations targeting fast-growing areas of IT, such as Networking, Software Engineering, Cyber
Security, Data Science, Multimedia and Electronic Commerce, to pursue a wide range of careers in computing, and to
target a broad range of opportunities. The typical climatic condition of Australia resembles the climatic condition of
my hometown, India. The Infrastructure, Industry-Institute Interface and the focused education system in Australia
have made it the indubitable choice for a master’s program. I have done some research and came to know that
Australia not only provides qualitative education but also reasonable fees and affordable living costs. Studying in an
English-speaking country I am assured that I will even enrich my communication skills and develop more formal
English which is useful in my career. That is why I selected Australia for my further education.

Research about Other Education Providers in Australia:

After deciding on Australia, my next objective was to search a program with world standard curriculum. I found
several Australian Universities and Institutes offering Master of Information Technology programs for 2 years
duration that are recognized by professional bodies. I mainly considered the course structure, majors, electives, and
course accreditations, and student support services etc. to make my final decision. Top Universities like Monash
University is offering Master of Information Technology program for a duration of 2 years and annual tuition fee is
AUD$ 47,136, La Trobe University offers Master of Information Technology program for a duration of 2 years and
annual tuition fee is AUD$ 37,200, RMIT University offers Master of Information Technology program for a duration
of 2 years and annual tuition fee is AUD$ 37,440, University of Wollongong offers Master of Computer Science
program for a duration of 2 years and annual tuition fee is AUD$ 34368, and Queensland University of Technology
(QUT) offers Master of Information Technology program for AUD$ 34,700 per year. I preferred the program offered
by QUT among others mainly because of the affordable tuition fee and the course structure which includes diverse
subject units with an opportunity to take up a major and plenty of practical exposure through 2 projects which helps
to prepare myself for a successful career in IT. Additionally, QUT offers a major in Data Science, so it's an obvious

the end, my only goal is to be a successful and dynamic Data Scientist professional in the near future which can make
me stand out amongst all.

The Telangana state administration wants to quadruple the information technology (IT) exports over the next five
years, a period during which it hopes to double direct employment in the sector. In addition, several of the world's
largest technological multinationals, such as Google Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., are constructing their largest
campuses outside of their home base, the United States, in Hyderabad. The industry is witnessing rapid growth
driven by increased demand for cloud-based and predictive analytics solutions by industries such as BFSI, retail,
telecom and healthcare. India has 600 data analytics firms with 100 new start-ups setup. Catering to this demand
India would require a large supply of data scientists. With such immense opportunities back in my home country I
feel confident of having a successful and progressive career in future. This international degree will provide me the
edge over other job seekers applying for similar positions with a better salary package. Moreover, the industry ready
skills and a global outlook will help me progress in my career pathway with confidence. So in this way, the amount
which I am going to invest to study in Australia will give better remuneration benefits and I will be able to recover
the amount which I have invested during my studies within 5-6 years.

Incentives to home country, India:

After completion of Master of Information Technology studies from Queensland University of Technology, Australia I
will come back to India because as son it is my prime responsibility to take care of my parents in their old age, need
to assist my parental properties which are worth of INR 1.5 Crores would be inherited my sibling and me in near
future. After my studies, when I return to India I see that my future in India is very much secure with a progressive
career in the field. A recent study by Cisco and International Data Corporation (IDC) says that India is more likely to
add 1.4 million new jobs in the IT sector by the year 2027. With plenty of upcoming opportunities in the Indian IT
Industry, I consider investing in an Australian master degree will help me reach my goal.
