1. What do you mean by Multimedia?

The term "multi" means variety or many, and the term "media" is a channel of
communication. With that in mind, we can define multi-media as a variety of
communication channels. As a result, multimedia uses a variety of text, audio, graphic,
animation, and video formats to communicate information.

2. Define the terms: Hypertext and Hypergraphics

Hypertext is text which contains links to other text. Hypertext is a way to link and
access information of various kinds as a web node in which the user can browse at will.
On the other hand hypergraphics is the graphic counterpart of hypertext in the web. In
hypertext we click a word or a phrase however, in hypergraphics we click the icon or
image to jump into the other section of the page. Moreover hypergraphics is also called
clickable image.

3. What do you understand by Animation? Explain.

Animation for me is moving images. I remember when I was watching Disney
classic movies such as snow White and Mickey Mouse or even Coraline the movie
manipulated image to create a moving images. That is traditional animation was but
because of technological advancements from Snow White to Frozen 2 we can see such
big difference in development of animation in film industry.

4. Discuss the evolution of Multimedia.

As we discussed earlier, multimedia is a variety of communication channels to
employ information to the people. To begin with the year 1440 when Johannes
Gutenberg invented the Printing Press. The usage of newspaper began in Venice, Italy
during 1566. On 1635, Charles I of England , first introduced public mail service, letters
were carried from one post to another by carries on foot or on horseback. Fast forward
to the develpment of the computer. In 1822, Charles Babbage first introduced the
concept of computer. The first photograph was dated between 1826-1827 by Joseph
Nicéphore Niépce. During 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was granted US patent
174465A for the method of transmitting speech by telegraphy- the telephone. Thomas
Edison invented the phonograph-a record player in 1877. In 1888, in Leeds, England
Louis Le Prince films Roundhay Garden Scene, believed to be the first motion picture
recorded.  In the year 1960, was the first workable prototype of the internet with the
creation of ARPANET or Advanced Research Project Agency Network. Around 1992,
first smartphone was introduced. In 1993, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee released
the source code for the world's first web browser and editor. On 1994, earliest form of
smartphone apps was developed and made available. During 1997, was the start of
mobile gaming. Google was founded during 1998. In year 2000, first Camera Phone was
released in Japan- the J-SH04. The first access to the internet was dated on the year
2001. Facebook was launched on 2004 and Youtube was on 2005. There were much
more multimedia to be invented in the future and I am thrilled what scientist and
developer would bring us.

5. What are the needs of Multimedia?

The needs of multimedia are:
o In business-It could be used for a variety of purposes, including presentations,
seminars, advertisements, product demonstrations, and video conferences. It
aims to supply an efficient and effective method of promoting products to the
general public.
o In education-It's a cutting-edge way to educate that's also very practical. When
teachers utilize multimedia, they motivate their students' interest in the material
being taught. In turn, this improves both education and output. Students can
print out resources like course modules and study guides to use at their own
pace.
o In mass media communication- It is incredibly important in the publishing
industry, particularly for newspapers and magazines. Information and
entertainment are provided through a combination of text, images, sound, video
clips, graphics, and live interaction.
o In advertising- The advertising industry employs multimedia to promote
businesses and products. It includes television, radio, and advertisements that
use animations, graphic designs, and text to attract consumers' attention. Other
forms of advertising include print ads and electronic ads, both of which are
created digitally using specialized software and then released on the market.
o In entertainment-This field, multimedia used are special effects to make movies
and video games more captivating. Using social networking applications and
multimedia tools, users can view and share photos and videos.
o In science and technology- The multimedia has the ability to transfer audio,
video, and other multimedia files. Utilizing social media to broadcast live from
one location to another is also important. With its aid, doctors in the medical
field can hear altered sounds, conduct MRIs, and even perform extremely
difficult surgeries. And in engineering, engineers also utilize software
applications and create architectural and computer simulation-based prototypes.

6. Discuss the applications of Multimedia.

The multimedia applications can be subdivided into different categories each
making particular demands for support on the operating system or runtime
environment these are the three application categories:
o The information systems- Information provision for one or more users is the
prime function of such systems. The requested information is stored in databases
or media archives. Examples of this are electronic publishing, online galleries, or
weather information systems.
o Remote representation- By means of a remote to presentation system a user
can take part in the monitor events at a remote location. Important examples are
distance conferencing or lecturing, virtual reality, or remote robotic agents.
o Entertainment- This major application area of multimedia technology is
strongly oriented towards audio and video data. Example in the attainment
application are digital television, video on demand, distributed games or
interactive television.

7. What is kiosk? Explain in brief.

Kiosk is a hardware equipment with a specialized integrated software whose main
function or to provide useful information and allow users to carry out transaction. It is a

businesses to reach their customers in more simple and informal manner thus are
primarily used for marketing purposes and can be staffed by individual or self service.

8. Discuss the various elements of multimedia.

There are five basic elements of multimedia which is text, images, audio, video and
animation.
