R04
1.0 Purpose:
To determine the color stability of plastics, coatings and other applicable materials.
2.0 Scope:
This procedure applies to all TTI products intended for outdoor applications.
5.0 Procedure(s):
5.1 The following two procedures are provided as acceptable formats for performing this test. The requestor shall
specify on the test request which procedure they want to be used.
5.1.1 Cycle 2 from ASTM D2565-99 procedure as below shown in table 1.
5.1.2 Modification of cycle 2 procedure from ASTM D2565-99 as shown below in table 2.
5.2. Using a Spectrophotometer, measure the initial color of the specimen/sample, recording L* a* b* C* h° readings as
viewed by illuminant D65, specular excluded (SCE), with a 10° observer.
5.3. Mount the specimens in the specimen racks with the test surface facing the lamps. If the test specimens do not
completely fill the racks, cover the empty spaces with blank panels to maintain the test conditions in the chamber.
5.4. Test duration is 200 Hours for TTI products.
5.5. Using the Spectrophotometer, measure the final color of the sample, recording L* a* b* C* h° readings as viewed
by illuminant D65, specular excluded (SCE), with a 10° observer.
The color difference method of the Color Measurement Committee (the CMC) is a model using two
parameters l and c, typically expressed as CMC(l:c). Commonly used values for acceptability are CMC(2:1) and for
perceptibility are CMC(1:1)
