Normative rules
For the control circuits power supply, transformers with separate windings must be used. DO
NOT use auto-transformers.
The control circuit power supply must be derived by a dedicated insulating transformer. The
transformers must be protected against over-current in conformity with the publication IEC 76-
5 and with the European Standards EN 60742 depending on the type.
The manufacturer’s recommendations concerning this device must be strictly observed.

Transformers with CE mark are to be used to supply only the device in question; the secondary
winding MUST NOT be connected to ground (example of secondary windings NOT suitable: 0 - 24
with 0 at ground...).
In case of very fluctuating power supply lines (with variations greater than 15%), saturated iron
stabilizing transformers with appropriate dimension must be used.
Do not use auto-transformers because this solution does not assure the galvanic separation
between the primary winding and the secondary winding.
Do not use transformers with central socket connected to ground. Furthermore, for the power
supply of QEM products, the use of auto-transformers, even those followed by transformers,
must be avoided.
Separate the power supply of the electronic circuits from the power supply of contactors, solenoid
valves, etc. Connecting the power supply of the common device to that used for loads such as
contactors, brakes etc., can cause problems because, when they are excited, voltage drop and
noises may occur.
Verify that the transformer power is enough to supply the circuits and that the transformer
being used actually supplies all the rating power, with no voltage drop.

Note: For further information, please consult QEM’s pubblication “Installation Manual” MIMAT801
and “Instructions for wiring execution”.

Count and interrupt inputs
The terms used for the description of the terminal boards (for ex. 2. INZ01, 2. CNT01…) are
those that should be used in the declaration of the hardware resources used in the application
(refer to “Programming manual”).

Operation level setting

The bidirectional count inputs can accept both 5V and 24V compatible Line Driver signals. The
operation voltage is selected with ENC. TYPE jumpers.
Connected jumper (ON) = compatible 5V Line Driver transducer.
Not connected jumper (OFF) = 24 V PNP transducer – Push Pull.

Serial communication ports
The C1-455-Dx has 2 serial ports (PROG and USER) for the communication with external appliances.
Generally, the two ports are accessible through BIN1 and ASC2 communication protocol
(manufactured by QEM).
Moreover, both ports are used to communicate in Modbus protocol (in both ASCII and RTU) with
other devices and can manage the communication as a master and can answer as a slave to the
requests of an external master. For the management of the Modbus communication, use the
MODBUS device (see “Programming information”).
They can also be connected to external devices with various types of communication protocols
(ex. printers, barcode reader, intelligent sensors, PLC, HMI …) implementing the protocol required
in QCL language and managing the communication through the SERCOM device (see “Programming
information”).

PROG port (Available electrical standard: RS232)

! The setting of It’s reserved to debugging of user’s program by connecting a PC and the QView development
communication and protocol enviroment (It’s advisable used the BIN1 protocol).
speed is differentiated for
PROG and USER serial port. To set the transmission speed refer to the chapter “Dip-switch settings”.
The PROG port will be used for one adjuntive terminal connection (see the chapter “Settings,
procedures and signallings”).

USER port (Available electrical standard: RS422)

It is generally used to connect the operator terminals (HMI) in ASC2 protocol (Tline’s style) o BIN1
(Qpanel’s style).
The BIN 1 and ASC2 protocol are provided with OCX libraries to facilitate the connection of the
device to PC in Window® Environment PC.
To set the port transmission speed, refer to chapter “Settings, procedures and signallings”.
The PROG port is identified by devices with number “1”.

CPU LED Signallings
The C1-455-Dx can signal the internal CPU state through a series of LEDs; the indications for the
signalling interpretations are listed as follows:

Pow Signals the device is ON

Run If it is on, signals the device is in RUN state.

If it blinks, signals the device is in READY state.

Stop Signals the device is in STOP state.

Err. Signals an error. The number of blinks indicates the type of error:
1 blink = Bus Error: indicates that the bus is not configured according to description
of the application
2 blinks = CheckSum Error: indicates that the internal board data has been altered.
To restart the board, follow the “Application reset procedure” or “Application restore
procedure”.
3 blinks = Index Out of Bound: the index of an array has tried to access a non-existing
stop.
4 blinks = Program Over Range: the program selection index which is inside the
DATAGROUP has tried to access a non-existing stop.
5 blinks = Step Over Range: the step selection index which is inside the DATAGROUP
has tried access a non-existing stop.
6 blinks = Division By Zero: the denominator of a division has zero value.
7 blinks = Syntax Error: the application language has found an invalid instruction
8 blinks = WatchDog Error: an intelligent board on bus does not operate correctly
9 blinks = Stack Error: the language has detected an instruction of subroutine jump
which is not allowed.

Halt The CPU manages the possible abnormal situations that may cause system
malfunctioning. Such situations are intercepted by the firmware that lights up this
LED and interrupts all operations. The boards on the bus are disabled. Once the system
has been re-started, the board will operate normally, and the LED will continue blinking
until the “Halt signalling Reset” procedure is performed.

Func This LED indicates the CPU is in a particular state of function execution wait (refer to
“Use of rear keys” for further information).

Boot If this LED is lit, it indicates that, when the device is switched on, no operating system
used for board operation has been detected.

Batt This LED indicates that the internal backup battery must be replaced. However, the
board continues operating. Caution: once the battery is completely exhausted, the
CPU cannot maintain the memorized data and, when the device is switched on, the
“CheckSum Error” state will appear.

Battery replacement procedure
THE BATTERY SUPPLIES THE RAM MEMORY IN A WAY THAT ALL THE MEANINGFUL DATA FOR THE
APPLICATION REMAINS UNCHANGED AT THE TURNING OFF.

AT EACH START UP A CHECK OF THE BATTERY STATUS IS DONE:

Status Description
flashing Battery in exhaustion
Substitute rapidly the battery: the data are still stored in the memory.
fixed Battery discharged
Substitute the battery: the data stored in the RAM memory may not be valid.

Battery substitution
Before proceeding with the substitution verify that the new battery is:
- charged (used suitable measure tool);
- compatible.
For more safety do a backup copy of data stored in the RAM memory with the procedure Project
> Backup or with the procedure Project > Savedata from Qview.
The battery substitution can be done with instrument feeded or not.
Take away the cover of the battery space;
substitute the battery being sure to respect the polarities signaled in the battery space (do this
operation within 15 sec if the tool are not supply)
Place the cover of the battery space;

Switch off and then on theminstrument;

If the procedure is correctly done the BATT led will be turned off.

If after the substitution of the battery the BATT led will be turned on or flashing we advise to
contact your furnisher.

In case the BATT led turns off, but the ERR led is flashing to indicate Error Checksum, you need
to restore the data saved through the procedure Project > Restore or Project > Realldata from
Qview 5.
If it’s done a Project > Backup it’s possible to do a Restore without the necessity of a PC
(System functions).

Use of rear keys

The C1-455-Dx has three keys which execute functions described in the following. The keys must
be used according to the described procedure only if necessary and never during the normal
machine operation.

Func Allows to select the available procedures and selections if an operator terminal
or a PC are not available.

Boot Allows to confirm the procedure or the selection performed using the FUNC
key. Further operations are performed by QEM only.

Reset CPU reset. The system is restarted by resetting the initial conditions (as it is
performed after a starting operation).

C1-455-Dx Installation manual v. 2.1 29

CPU states
The operating system has 4 operation states: RESET, READY, STOP, RUN. The following diagram
shows the events determining the transition from one state to another.
A pplica tion
dow n load

The Run, Reset, Stop and Restart signallings represent serial commands that are normally sent
from the development environment. Application download represents the procedure that allows
to transfer the user application to the CPU.

Reset

processes the serial requests
on the PROG port. The conditions that can lead the CPU in the Reset state are the following:
• When the device is switched on, there is no application in the memory
• When the device is switched on, a checksum calculation error occurs (in this case, the ERROR
LED blinks)
• RESET serial command
• Exceptional event (in this case, the HALT LED blinks)
It is possible to shift only to a READY state from a RESET state by executing one of the
following operations.
• RESTORE application command (from serial application or with FUNC key procedure).
• Application download
• Application reset procedure execution through FUNC key.

Ready
It is signalled when the POW LED is on and the RUN LED blinks.
The board has a valid application internally and is ready to execute it.
The CPU will be in READY state as a result of the following conditions:
• Application RESTORE command by serial function or with FUNC key procedure.
• Application download
From this condition, it is possible to operate in the RUN or RESET states.

RUN
It is signalled when the POW and RUN LEDs are on.
The board is executing the application.
The CPU will be in RUN state as a result of the following conditions:
• When the device is switched on, there is a memory application
• Serial RUN control.
From this condition, it is possible to operate in all the other states of the CPU.

30 C1-455-Dx Installation manual v. 2.1

STOP
It is signalled when the POW and STOP LEDs are on and the RUN LED is off. The board has stopped
the application execution.
The CPU will be in STOP state as a result of the following conditions:
• Enter the STOP serial command
• Enter the STEP serial command
• Enter the STEP-OVER serial command
• In the interpretation of the application code, a breakpoint occurs. From this condition, it is
possible to operate in all the other states of the CPU.

Backup and Restore
The Qview application that the user transfers in the CPU is made up of information that cannot
be modified and information that can be modified.

Information that cannot be modified

It is the application information that is not subject to variations during the application, such as
QCL instruction code, symbols used in the project, application title,…
This data is memorized in the flash memory.

Information that can be modified

It is the information built during the download, such as data areas for variables, data areas for
internal devices, datagroup content and data with value that is modified during the operation
(all application data).
This data is memorized in buffered RAM memory.

Backup
The backup is a command that allows to create a security copy of all data that can be modified,
recording it inside the flash memory. This operation can reset all parameters existing at a defined
time. Since the values are copied in the flash memory, the memory device assures maximum
security.
Conditions that allow the execution of the backup command are the following:
- CPU in READY state
- Application that does not use RAM for a value higher than the backup limit (refer to chapter
“Electrical specifications”.

Restore
The restore command allows to restore all the application values with those present at the
backup.
The backup content is cancelled during the download procedure only if the application has
different “checksum configuration” or “symbol checksum”.
The backup command execution can be obtained by the following conditions:
- A backup must have been made previously
- CPU in READY or ERROR state
