Model of the instructional material

it offers over 3,000 free listening activities

if ever wrong answer

Audio visual model

Theories and principles

We considered this as our material because according to (Nunan 1998) Everyone can listen but not
everyone can be considered as active listener. Aside from all the other macro skills, developing the
listening skills can be considered as one of the hardest and crucial, especially during elementary days.
Listening involves an active process of deciphering and constructing meaning from both verbal and non-
verbal messages.

We came up with this idea based from Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning where in it has
been pointed out that audio-visual aids are beneficial to learning due to the audio-visual processing
channels of human mind which register pictures, words and sounds in the sensory memory. In other
words, learners learn more effectively if there are images words and sounds in a lesson.

So, we focused on audio visual learning material because these are instructional materials that are used
to improve teaching and learning, specifically in the areas of enhancing comprehension and retention of
idea because they are being exposed to the language. These audio-visual aids are very flexible because it
contains both an audio and a visual presentation which makes the learner more attentive to what they
are listening since there are images.

Effectiveness of material
This material is effective because According to Gilakjani (2012) with the use of effective learning
materials including audio-visual aids in enhancing teaching and learning, and visual presentation helped
differentiating primary and secondary information sources in approaching questions requiring higher
thinking skill. By using these Instructional Material, the student's listening comprehension will be tested
as after they listen there are guide questions and activities to answer so they really have to pay
attention to the material.

Appropriateness of the material

This developed material is appropriate for Filipino learners because the goal is to improve their listening
comprehension in the English language with the help of the listening materials that the researchers have
made or developed.
Relation to Philippine Curriculum

This Instructional material can be related to curriculum because Filipino learners in this curriculum
nowadays are experiencing difficulties when it comes to comprehending what a person is saying. This
also affects their learning in schools because if students have low listening comprehension, their
chances of not learning are high.

Uses of the Material

For teachers, they will have an idea of what right activity will help the students in developing their
listening skills. and base on what the teacher learned about the material, they can expand the idea or
concept base on the needs of the students.

The developed material is very flexible as it can be used for elementary to high school students. They
will watch the audio visuals then it will be followed up with a written activity that is based on what they
listened to. The use and goal of these materials is to help develop the listening skills of each student.

Approach

Teacher centered or student-centered approach

This Learning material is student centered approach as the students are being exposed to the language
themselves. They are using their listening skills in order to acquire something or comprehend something
based from the instructional material.

Extensive listening is a way to practice English listening skills by listening to many different recordings,
videos and interview. This will help them get context for what they are listening to, and will help them
improve their vocabulary and listening comprehension as they are exposed to the English language.
