I. Design Philosophy

Every bot is a special snowflake. There are thousands of combinations for skillsets
and loadouts. Once a skillset and loadout has been picked, the bot will keep those
attributes for the rest of the match, giving them a sense of idenity. Basically,
you will find youself growing fond of that troll of a teammate running around with
a shotgun. And you grow resentment for that fucker on the other team with the
silenced AK-47 and tiger camo spamming grenades. He thinks he's better than you.
Well screw him.

Game Requirement:

The latest Steam version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is highly recommended.
No other clients or mods should be installed. Rips and repacks might not work.

PLEASE NOTE: By installing this mod you will not be able to launch Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 2 from Steam or use any online services that come with the game.
This mod requires the game to be independent of the Steam client. This package
contains all of the files you need for the mod to work properly.

This mod is designed for people who wish to play the multiplayer portion alone with
emulated players offline. The server that you launch as a separate component to the
game will create a LAN environment for the game to connect to. This means that you
can play with friends locally as well.

Continue to the "Installation" section to learn how to install RSE.

III. Installation

PC Installation:

It is recommended that you make a back up of your Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
installation before installing this mod.

Before installing RSE, install the components in the "Redist" folder if you haven't
already.

To install this mod, copy the entire contents of the "Files" folder to your root
directory of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, merging folders as needed.

When you are ready to play, you can start the game by launching the "iw4mphost.bat"
file. You can configure your in-game name by editing the "alterIWnet.ini" file in
your root directory for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Private match is ranked. All status and custom class settings are saved on your
computer. An internet connection is not needed to play. This game can be completely
enjoyed offline.

There are no unnecessary HUD alterations. This mod is designed to be completely

integrated as if bots were an official part of the game.
Read the "Configuration" portion of this document to learn how to spawn bots in
private match using the bot menu.

You can play RSE with LAN. Connecting players will have to edit the
"alterIWnet.ini" file and change the IP address to the address of the host
computer. Connecting players should not launch "iw4mphost.bat" since they are not
the host. Instead, connecting players should launch "iw4mp.exe". Once the host is
in a private match lobby (or has started a private match), use the external console
to connect to the host by typing "connect %ipaddress%" and hit enter. The game will
then join the host.

If you would like to play the single player portion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
2, you can launch the "iw4sp.exe" program. No other clients are needed for the
single player. Keep in mind that the full installation of this package makes the
entire game independent of the Steam client. You will no longer be able to launch
the game through Steam. Using the client provided will prevent you from playing
online again.

IV. Configuration

Executable configuration files are not supported in this version of RSE. All
configuration is done in-game using the built-in bot menu.

To enable the bot menu, you will need to bind the correct keys to your keyboard.

In the controls screen of the options menu, bind the following keys:

- Secondary Inventory: Bind to "DOWN ARROW".

- Night Vision: Bind to "UP ARROW".

- Jump: Bind to "SPACE".

These are the recommended keys to bind to. You may bind each of the keys to any
keyboard buttons that you feel most comfortable with.

The menu is only available for the host of the match and can only be accessed in
private match. Bots automatically spawn in a matchmaking session based on the lobby
size.

To use the menu, follow this legend:

- Open menu: Press "Second Inventory" (DOWN ARROW).

- Navigate down: Press "Second Inventory" (DOWN ARROW).

- Navigate up: Press "Night Vision" (UP ARROW).

- Accept/Change value: Press "Jump" (SPACE).

Once you spawn bots, the menu will automatically close. If you decide to open the
menu again, the menu will change to a kicking bots menu layout. If you kick bots,
the menu will return to the spawning bots menu layout.

/

The following commands are available to be changed in-game:

- Bot Difficulty (recruit, regular, hardened, veteran, mixed) default: mixed

- Number of Allies (1-9) default: changes based on the map

- Number of Axis (1-9) default: changes based on the map

- Bots Use Nuke (true, false) default: true

- Bots Talk (true, false) default: true

The default values are recommended for the most realistic and balanced experience.

The PS3 version is limited to spawning 11 bots in any form. (6 vs 6, 3 vs 9, etc.)

The PC version can spawn 9 vs 9 on every map and mode except for free-for-all to
avoid spawn killing.

For instructions on how to use the waypoint editor and how to create a new mod
file, see the developer tools document located in the Extras folder.

V. Support/Notes

Known issues:

- bot models can be glitched when they are moving (floating and missing parts)
- sometimes a bot that earns an AC130 or Chopper Gunner will delay using it
(possibly a pre-caching problem)
- occasionally a bot spawns and will not move (usually fixes itself with the
"stuck" process)

To-do list:

- include a PS3 version again

Ambitious goals for the future:

- add DLC support for the PS3 version
- add more animations for bots (prone, climb, mantle, plant, jump, etc.)
- recreate waypoints for all maps (to improve performance)
- add more bot menu options
- make bots use C4 explosives
- add support for ADS (aim down sights)
- give bots unique names
- add waypoints dedicated for hiding spots and sniper spots
- make bots carry a full loadout (carrying a primary and a secondary) and switch
between them depending on the situation
- make bots use equipment tactically (claymores in doorways, tactical insertions
in corners, etc.)

Would you like to become part of the RSE development team?

I am looking for experienced coders, modders, or hackers to assist in development.

Help us bring you a better mod!

Since our team is small, development is slow. It can take several months between
version releases.
