Read and Ponder!

A literature review is intended to provide a summary of sources you have searched while
probing a certain topic and to show to your readers how your research study is relevant within an
extensive discipline of study. It includes examining of books, pedagogical articles and of sources
that is relevant to a particular topic, concept or theory and other areas of research that will provide
a detail, encapsulation and evaluation of the whole thing in regard to the problem being explored
(Fink, 2014).

A literature review provides a summary of present information, allowing you to recognize

pertinent concepts, processes and differences in the existing research. Bueno (2016) stated that
literature reviews consists articles taken from books, magazines, journals and other forms while
related studies are lifted from published and unpublished theses/dissertations research journals.

Writing a literature review or related studies involves looking into relevant books or journal
articles and critically analyzing them and at the same time explaining the findings. In doing so,
McCombes (2020) suggested that there are five steps in writing a literature review and these are:
1. Search for interrelated studies
2. Evaluate references
3. Identify common ideas, disputes and differences
4. Outline the framework
5. Write the literature review/related studies

Summarizing, analyzing, synthesizing and critically evaluating the sources to give a clear
idea of the extent of knowledge on the subject makes a good literature.
