Clipsal Labelling
CLIPSAL LABELLING
Clipsal Labelling
Clear identification of services is an essential part of a structured cabling solution. It saves time and money down the track when additions, moves and changes are made. The Clipsal Label Printing Package is designed for the C2000 Classic Series labelling series and 30PID labels. It is free as part of the Alfred Trade Product Guide on CD-ROM, and enables contractors and customers to quickly and easily print their own labels. The CD contains an extensive tutorial which fully explains how to print labels. The Clipsal Label Printing Package is Windows based. It requires very simple data entry, and allows for multiples of consecutive labels. Text colour selection is also available, depending on the suitability of the printer. The program provides a test and setting adjustment facility which allows for different brands of printers. The Clipsal Label Printer ensures perfect labels every time when printing on the special C2000 or 30PID label sheets. In 2003 this label programme is being updated to include on site labelling for the Clipsal Professional Cat. 5e and Cat. 6 Patch Panels and Giga Pro Voice and Data Block cabling solution.

24 AWG Overall Screened & Individual & Overall Screened Instrumentation Cable
For Interconnecting Monitoring and Control Systems
CABLE DESCRIPTION Clipsal Professional Series 24 AWG Instrumentation Cables are low capacitance cables for extended distance balanced pair operation (RS422 / RS485). They are used extensively in PLC environments, and also for connecting computer peripheral equipment such as printers and modems. Due to the greater noise immunity of twisted pairs, these cables are able to carry higher data speeds than multiconductor cables. ASSEMBLY OF COVERS, FITTINGS AND ACCESSORIES FABRICATED FITTINGS Insert this side over the left hand cover. Clip this side onto the right hand body. All fabricated upward or downward elbows and tees are manufactured from the basic trunking section and should be installed using internal couplings. Fixing holes (as for the main body) in the outer compartments will be 50mm in from each end and from the apex of the corner. EXTERNAL ELBOWS All external elbows should be fitted after attaching covers. Insert the left hand side of the elbow into the cover and push gently into position, until the right hand side locates on the trunking body.
(External elbow)
Note: Maximum cover overlap = 8mm. Nominal = 5mm. At an external elbow, the trunking cover must be cut some 17 - 20mm shorter than the body to permit the correct fitting of the external elbow moulding.
Min. 17mm Max.20mm Necessary clearance of the cover from edges to install fitting: (Top View)

INTERNAL ELBOWS It is preferable that all internal elbows should be fitted prior to attaching covers. Simply clip the elbow into the body, ensuring that the clips have located fully onto the two adjacent sections.
INTERNAL COUPLERS These should be fitted between the divider rails in the back of the trunking body. As each length or part of a length is mounted onto the wall, two couplers should be fitted (glued) to give a firm alignment between adjacent lengths.
ADDITIONAL DIVIDERS Clip the dividers onto the rails provided in the back of the main body.
Additional Dividers
CROSSOVER UNIT Crossover unit for isolated cable conveyance over the centre trunking compartment. CABLE RETAINERS For the outer sections of the main body the cable retainers snap-fit onto the rail in the centre of the compartment. The cable retainers in the central compartment of the main body must first be inserted into the top groove of the partition wall, and then snapped into the groove between the base and the partition.
(Internal Elbow)
INSTALLATION ACCESSORY BOX These are clipped into the required position on the trunking cover fixing rails. The cables are fed through the knockouts in preparation for connection to the appropriate wiring accessory. 1. To install the crossover unit, it is necessary to remove all covers in the trunking section where the COU shall be mounted. 2. Make two vertical cuts with a fine toothed saw in both partition walls of the trunking body, cut a line with a sharp knife between the lower end of the vertical cuts and break away the remaining wall between the cuts. Depth of the cuts: 20-22mm Distance between the cuts: 40-42mm (see drawing above) 3. Fit the crossover unit into the cut-outs and pass through the cables as required and refit the trunking covers.
COUPLERS COVER JOINTS For adjacent covers already mounted onto the trunking body, the gap between each cover must be at least 10mm (19mm max.), to allow for the coupler to be fitted into place.

CLIPSAL STARLINE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The Starline Skirting and Trunking System has been designed to give a speedy and precise installation. No special tools are required other than a screwdriver, fine toothed saw and drill. All fittings clip firmly onto the body, without screws, to give a neat smooth finish. 1. PACKING The three metre lengths of assembly trunking, completely assembled, are supplied within a plastic sheath for protection during transportation, and to protect loose covers from damage during installation. 2. PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION Remove all trunking covers from the body and carefully store in the original plastic sheath to prevent damage. Removal of the covers is illustrated below. 3. CUTTING TO LENGTH The trunking body can be cut to length using a finetoothed saw. It should be held firmly whilst cutting. Electricians tape or covers should be used to support the partition on each side of the proposed cut. The centre compartment covers should be cut to suit the installation of socket outlet boxes. 4. FIXING Clipsal Starline trunking should be secured to the wall using No. 8 or 10 round head screws and the appropriate washers. The screws should be at least 40mm long. Two internal couplings should be fitted between each trunking section. Note: Fixing holes should be drilled a maximum of 50mm in from each end and 500mm apart in both outer compartments along the full length of the trunking.
FOR WIRING MODIFICATIONS When changes to the wiring system are necessary both fittings and covers will have to be removed in one of the following ways. Start the process at: a) coupler b) an external elbow mounting c) a plug end d) an accessory box
a) The coupler is designed to lift clear, exposing all three covers which can then be removed.
a) Centre main compartment cover Insert screwdriver as illustrated and pull away from the trunking body.
b) The external elbow moulding can be levered away from the body using a left to right motion (insert a screwdriver under the right hand edge, between the outer and centre cover faces and lever outwards).
b) Outer square and chamfered covers Insert screwdriver at the points shown above and lever out. These covers must be pulled away at 90 to the wall surface to prevent damage. Note: When attaching Starline covers it is recommended to first mount all internal elbows, then centre compartment covers, and finally the external elbows. For ease of cover removal permitting data and comms cable installation at a later date external couplers should be fitted across all three cover sections.
Care must be taken to ensure that when installing Starline (as a skirting system) at least 10mm clearance to the floor surface is allowed to ease the fitting of covers, bends, couplers etc. This also allows for the final floor coverings to be fitted. Starline trunking must be mounted on a flat surface to prevent body distortion, as it may result in the trunking covers and accessories fitting incorrectly.
c) If there is sufficient room on the installation, the plug end can be dismounted (if no adhesive has been used) and the covers removed as necessary. For access into the centre compartment in this manner, it is essential to isolate the power before attempting to remove a power point.

Twisted-Pair Media
The following table defines the AS/NZS 3080: 2003 CLASS (Category) for horizontal copper cables. CLASS A CATEGORY 1 AND CLASS B CATEGORY 2 These twisted-pair cables are not recognised in the ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-A standard. Typically used for voice and low speed data (9600 b/s or less) transmission rates. The characteristics of these cables are specified up to 100KHz and 1 MHz respectively. CLASS C CATEGORY 3 This designation applies to twisted-pair cable and connection hardware currently specified in the AS/NZS 3080: 2003 standard. The characteristics of these cables are specified up to 16Mhz. They are typically used for voice and data transmission rates up to 10Mb/s (e.g. IEE 802.5 4Mb/s twisted-pair annex and IEE 802.3 10Base-T). CLASS D CATEGORY 5 The characteristics of these twisted-pair cable and components are specified up to 100Mhz. They are intended to be used for voice and data transmission rates up to and greater than, 16Mb/s [e.g. IEE 802.5 16Mb/s twisted-pair standard and ANSIX3T9.5 100Mb/s twisted-pair physical media dependent (TP-PMD)]. Previously referred to as Category 5e, these products are designed with additional parametres necessary to support application that make use of all four pairs in the cable for simultaneous bidirectional transmission (such as IEE IEE 802.3 1000BASE-T) Gigabit Ethernet. CLASS E CATEGORY 6 Continued development of high-speed applications drove the need for more bandwidth than CLASS D cabling systems. CLASS E channels have a power sum ACR that is greater than zero at 200 Mhz, and parametres are specified up to 250 Mhz. CLASS F CATEGORY 7 Cabling consists of four individually shielded twisted pairs having nominal impedance of 100. CLASS F cable requires a new fully-shielded connector design. CLASS F cabling has parametres specified to 600Mhz. F/UTP SCTP The characteristics of these cables and components are defined in terms of impedance and class (category). The cables and components shall have the same nominal impedance i.e: 100 or 120 for CLASS A to CLASS C and 100 for CLASS D, E and F.

Sequence Options
Sequence is defined as the order in which the incoming pairs are terminated into the modular interface pins. Each pair is designated as a Transmit conductor and a Receive conductor.
10 BASET Used with the WE8W polorisation, this is a modification of the EIA 568B sequence, leaving pair #1 open and starting with pair #2. This provides an additional level of protection from interconnection of voice and data equipment. If voice equipment is always wired on pins 4 and 5 (pair #1), and data equipment never has pins 4 and 5 active, no interconnection is possible.
EIA 568A This is the preferred connection sequence for Australia and New Zealand as stated in AS/ NZS 3080-1885; also the EIA Commercial Cabling Specification Draft 9.0 for termination of UTP data cable. The international standard for ISDN also states this standard. This is similar to the 568B sequence except that pairs #2 and #3 are transposed. This provides backward compatibility to the USOC sequence for two pairs instead of the single pair of 568B.
EIA 568B This is the preferred connection sequence for the U.S. and is derived from ISO 11801 and is a sub-set of IEEE 802.3 10 Based-T Ethernet over twisted pair. This standard is only applicable to eight wire polarisation (WE8W). In the 568B sequence, pair #1 and pair #3 correspond to pair #1 and pair #2 of the USOC sequence, providing backward compatibility with 2 pair systems (such as analogue voice). Pair #1 is therefore designated as T1 and R1. The sequence defines which pins of the modular interface are defined as T1, R1, T2, R2 etc. Some sequences are only applicable to certain polarisation.
USOC Historically was the most common sequence and is used by US telephone systems. Pairs are nested, i.e. pair #1 is centred, pair #2 is the next two contacts out, etc. This maintains pair-to-pair continuity when, for instance, one pair equipment is connected through a 4 pair circuit. Nesting of pairs also enables a reversal to be made within each pair through the use of simple reversing line cord (1 to 8, 2 to 7). USOC is applicable to WE2W, WE4W, WE6W and WE8W polarisations. An advantage of the pair nesting of the USOC sequence is that a WE4W/6W plug inserted into a WE8W jack works fine as long as quality (correctly toleranced) components are used.
