ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
This is the brief report on the case study of shelter/ settlement of different
climatic zone from the subject ‘Building Science’. This report was successfully
completed under the guidance of our subject teacher.

In performing our project, we had to take the help and guideline of some
respected persons, who desired our greatest gratitude. We would like to express
our sincere gratitude to our respected teacher, Ar. ANISH LIMBU, for his guidance
and for providing us knowledge on project work. We are also very thankful to the
whole Purwanchal Campus and obviously the libriarians for providing refrence
books on various topics, the seniors for helping us to acquire the additional
information and all the team members and colleagues for cooperating friendly.
OBJECTIVES
 To gain knowledge about construction technology, space usage and
building materials of shelter/ settlement of a climatic zone.
 To study about different characteristics of the climatic zone.
 To acquire information regarding the usage of passive methods.

METHODOLOGY
This report was written with an aim of collecting information regarding
space usage, construction technology, and climatology of a particular
shelter/settlement of that climatic zone. This process was only possible
with consultation with teachers, taking data and photographs of the subject
matter through different sites and also through field visit.
CASE STUDY ON MONTEREY RESIDENCE, MALAYSIA
Information:-
NAME :- MONTEREY RESIDENCE

LOCATION :- SELANGOR, MALAYSIA

ARCHITECTS :- ONG & ONG

LAND AREA :- 309 ACRES

RESIDENCE AREA :- 65 ACRES


In Malaysia, the climate is equatorial, i.e hot, humid and rainy throughout the
year. Temperatures are high and stable, with a slight decrease between
November and January, when highs drop to 29/30 °C, at least in the north, and a
slight increase (which, however, is felt because of the high humidity) between
March and August, when highs hover around 32/33 °C and lows around 23/25 °C.

 On average, May is the most humid.


 On average, March is the least humid month.
 The average annual percentage of humidity is: 80.0%
Monterey residences are luxury residential homes incorporating intelligent and
sustainable elements as well as aesthetically-pleasing designs within gated and
guarded enclaves. All of them have 4 bedrooms, 5 baths + 1 powder room, yard,
many balconies and porch space to park at least 4 cars. Monterey Residences
comprises many property types such as

 Regio Villas (36’x85’) :- 210 Units


 Estilo Villas (40’x85’) :- 68 Units
 Rio Villas (45’x80’) :- 56 Units

These villas are further categorized under Type A, A1, A2 and so on.
Regio Villa :-
These are Intermediate lots.
Type A (2,718 sq. ft) and
Type A 1 (2,743 sq. ft) have
the same layout plan, with
the difference being only in
sq. ft. This floor plan sports
an interesting powder room
location at the staircase.
Estilo Villa:-
Estilo has a superwide frontage. Again, the Intermediate lots of Type C (3,052sq
ft) and Type C1 (3,113 sq ft) are mirrors, with the difference being only in sq ft.
The living room is especially wide and thus, can have two living rooms on either
side of the main entrance.
Grond Floor plan B & B1
Rio Villa :-
Rio Villa has the widest frontage of all. These Intermediate lots of Type B (3,522sq
ft) and Type B1 (3,522sq ft) are mirrors, with the difference being only in sq ft.
This floor plan has a very large living room that takes up almost half the unit
downstairs. The staircase is located in the centre of the unit with a storeroom
next to it. The masterbedroom upstairs is also especially expansive.

CONCLUSION:-
 Out of the total land area, only 21% area is covered with residence,
remaining are for greenery, and circulation.
 Monterey Residences strikes a fine balance between affordable luxury and
touches of natural splendour – fully embodying the core ideals of the
greater eco-haven masterplan.
 Monterey Residence is designed to be a tranquil haven replete with
cascading terraces, flowing brooks, and verdant landscaping and forests.
 Spaces are used without destroying greenery to make it eco-friendly
residence
 Aiming to cater to a wide variety of prospective homeowners, onsite
facilities will also include the recreational lake, jogging trail, bicycle lanes,
pedestrian walkways, multi-purpose hall, as well as a children’s playground.
 As being the hot, humid and rainy climate throughout the year, people can
adapt their lifestyle.
 Monterey residence have a good response to the local climatic conditions
like greenery of trees and ponds on NW side is preserved.
