b. Find the critical value
c. Compute the test value (you can do it manually and verify your answer with the aid of
technology)
d. Make the decision (you can use the traditional or the p-value method)
e. Summarize results

1. MHDM Gadget store is selling 4 brands of cellphone. The owner is interested if there is a
significant difference in the average sales for a week. The following data are recorded
Brand A Brand B Brand C Brand D
7 9 2 4
3 8 3 5
5 8 4 7
6 7 5 8
9 6 6 3
4 9 4 4
3 10 2 5
Test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance that the average sales of the four brands of
cellphone are equal. Which brand/s of cellphone is more saleable? (20pts)

2. In a Physical Education class, several fitness scores were taken. The following sample is the
numbers of push-ups and sit-ups done by 10 randomly selected students:
Student Push-ups Sit-ups
1 27 30
2 22 26
3 15 25
4 35 42
5 30 38
6 52 40
7 35 32
8 55 54
9 40 50
10 40 43
Test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance that there is no relationship between the
number of push-ups and sit-ups. Predict the number of sit-ups for a student who can finish
45 push-ups. (20pts)
3. A study was conducted on the effect of Math Remediation to the performance of 20 selected
students. A pre-test was administered before the remediation was conducted. After 2 months,
the same instrument was used to get the posttest result. The following is the result of the
instrument.

Student Pretest Posttest

1 18 30
2 15 10

16 10 20
17 18 22
18 14 20
19 15 20
20 20 15

Test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance that there is a difference between the
pretest and posttest scores. (20pts)

Part II. (40pts) Answer the following items substantially.

1. What are the different statistical assumptions? Discuss each. What will happen when the
statistical assumptions are wrong?

2. Identify the appropriate statistical tool/s for each item. Justify your answers.
a. Smokers in general, have greater lung damage, as measured by the destructive image
scores, than do non-smokers.
b. Is the weight growth of chicken from four types of feeds different from one another?
