Home remedies for common cold

Home remedies may be very useful in the prevention of common cold and cough. Home
remedies are safe and can provide quick relief from the symptoms of common cold and cough.
Some useful home remedies for the treatment of common cold are:

Grind some ginger, 2-3 cloves and a pinch of salt together to make a paste. Take about half
teaspoon of this paste two times in a day to get relief from cough and cold.
Instil two or three drops of almond oil in the nostrils. It helps to cure running nose and cold.

Boil some water and put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in this water. Take steam to get relief from
stuffy nose. It is a good home remedy for blocked nose.

Vitamin C is very useful for the treatment of coughs and cold. Increase the intake of vitamin C
rich foods. Fruits such as oranges, grapes, amla, etc. are good sources of vitamin C.

Ginger is also useful for boosting up the immunity. Take some water and boil ginger. Strain it
and drink this concoction when hot to get relief from cough and cold.

Pepper also gives relief from running nose. Take half a teaspoon of pepper along with lukewarm
water to get relief from the symptoms of common cold.

Take one glass of milk and add half a teaspoon of powdered turmeric into it. Boil the milk and
drink this milk when hot to get relief from chronic cough.

Take half a teaspoon of ginger powder with jiggery. This also gives relief from cough. It is an
old home remedy and can be taken two or three times in a day to get quick relief.

Take some sesame seeds and roast them in ghee. Mix them with jiggery and eat it two or three
times in a day to treat the running nose.

Drink lukewarm water to get relief from sore throat. You can also add honey and lemon juice to
the water to get relief from cold and running nose.

Boil some figs in water and drink this water to get relief from running nose and cough.

Boil ajwain seeds in water and add one teaspoon of honey. It is an excellent home remedy for the
treatment of cold.

Boil some basil leaves in water and add aniseed to it. Drink this water two or three times in a day
to get relief from cold.

Doing gargles with salt water is an effective and traditional home remedy for the treatment of
sore throat and cough.

Prevention of cough and cold


People suffering from recurrent cough and cold may take certain precautions to prevent the
infection. Some useful steps to prevent the spread of cough and cold are:

 Always wash your hand before eating food and touching your nose or mouth.
 Always blow into tissue paper and do not blow in the open as it will spread infection and
other members of your house may get infected.
 Do not share towels or handkerchief when you are infected with the virus.
 Try to sleep in an isolated room with a humidifier.
 Use paper towels that can be disposed off easily.
