Human Capital and Education

The theme and content of the talk relate the present state and affairs in Philippine education and
human capital formation in the way that the government extend their hands to give access the
education to all Filipino’s by giving subsidy to the poor family so that their children could access
education and finish their studies to lift up their status in life.

According to the brilliant girl in the video, her grandmother did not finish her studies because
their parents did not support her and she got married and have kids. But her grandmother value
education so she support her daughter to finish studies because that is her ultimate dream. This
scenario is same with the current issues now, our parents did not finish studies because of
poverty and lack of support by their parents. That is why they pursue us to finish our studies
because they believe that education can change our life and have a great future someday. This is
true because when we are educated and could finish any course we can find high salary job and
we can uplift our status in life from poverty. As we can observe to the families that all their
children finish their schooling, they got better job with high salary and their life changes a lot,
they can buy all they want and have a big fund in bank for their retirements and for their health
when they got old. In short they have a better future ahead.

As I have experienced, when you are uneducated or did not finish any degree holder course you
cannot find a high salary job. You can be hired as nanny, housemaid, construction worker and
other job that the wages is below minimum and cannot support your family needs. Before my
dreams is to finish my studies because I experienced a lot of hardship. It’s only my mother raised
me because my father died very early . My mother could not find a better job because she is
elementary undergraduate, her job is farmer, a very tough job for a women. I experienced
planting rice whole day under a very sunny day, gathering nito vine in the forest just to earn
money for my schooling in elementary and secondary. I experienced going to school without
anything, I could not buy school uniform, cannot paid miscellaneous fees because before
education is not free. Im always absent in class because I am shy to go to school because my
teacher is always mentioning my name who did not paid for the school contribution. Sometimes
it comes in my mind to quit schooling. Until I finish secondary, my dream is to continue college
but my mother said she cannot support me. I go to the city to find job, a housemaid. I encounter a
lot of hardship. Many years pass by, my highschool batchmate already finish their college and
got a good job, some of them became. A teacher, policemen and some goes to abroad to work as
nurse. I feel very sad for myself but I understand my mother’s situation. As I reach my 25 th , I got
married to a farmer.we work together and got a small business. But my dream to finish college
is still in me, so I ask him that I want to continue my college. I’m very thankful that he support
my dreams. At the age of 33 I enrolled in college taking up BSED. And finally graduated in
2019 and passed the licensure examination. I got hired in RSU Cajidiocan campus as lecturer and
now I’m pursuing my masters because I want to be a part of RSU regular faculty. In this life
experienced of mine, there are many realizations that I have. One is education can really change
the life of a person like me. Before our problem is where to find money to buy food, clothing and
money for health. We even don’t have house as a shelter. Now that I finish my studies and got a
job little by little my life is changing. We have our own house and lot now and can buy all the
food that we want to eat, clothing and money health. I can relate my life to the talk and to the
present state and affairs in education. Education is really powerfully in changing the life of an
individual.
