REACTION PAPER ON SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Social-emotional learning is vital for students because it teaches them crucial
life skills, including the ability to understand themselves, develop a positive self- image, take responsibility for their actions, and forge relationships with the people around them. It can also be critical for students to build confidence and self-esteem. Successful teachers develop the whole child by making integrated efforts to promote their student’s academic, social and emotional learning. Students need to be aware of themselves and others; make responsible decisions, and be ethical and respectful of the people around them.
Student learning is maximized when social and emotional skills, a superior
learning environment with superior classroom norms and structure, a dedication to the academic achievement of all students, and superior performance standards are present. Academic performance, classroom behavior, and attitudes toward learning have all improved as a result of quality social and emotional learning that is supported by parent involvement and integrated across the entire curriculum. Through social-emotional learning, students can gain the following tools, which are required to set goals for themselves: solve problems, persevere in the face of adversity, fight for social justice, empathize with other people, take responsibility, led by example, and establish the kind of behaviors that most predict long-term success in modern life.
We teachers can also benefit from social-emotional learning. After all, it is
typically much simpler to teach a classroom full of pupils who are conscientious, compassionate, self-aware, prepared to make wise judgments, and able to reason and take into account the advantages and disadvantages of their activities.
