ABSTRACT

The objective of this seminar is to introduce the concept of artificial

intelligence in the world of automobiles. The development of artificial
intelligence has taken a significance step in recent years and since then, the
development has taken place in every domain of the modern world. This
paper enlightens the need of a strong artificial intelligence in the world of
automobiles and recent development that has taken place till now in the field
of automotive.
INTRODUCTION
In today’s era, the term artificial intelligence or AI as it is addressed, is a
technological revolution that is taking over all the domains in the world. Be
it the software industry or the production industry, the AI has advanced its
root in every aspect. However, being such a common technology today, the
real essence of this technology is still an abstract to many and it is
important to first understand what artificial intelligence is
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence exhibited by machines or
software through the study and design of intelligent agents, where an
intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes
actions that maximize its chances of success.

APPLICATION
AUTONOMOUS CAR :
FEATURES
RADAR :

Traditional RADAR sensors are used to detect

Dangerous objects in the vehicle’s path that are more
than 100 meters away.

Accident prevention systems trigger alerts when they

detect something in blind car’s blind spot.

The radar chirps between 10 and 11 GHZ over a 5

millisecond period , transmitting the radar signal from
centrally located antenna cone.
FEATURES
LIDAR

The light detection and ranging (LIDAR) which is mounted on roof of the
vehicle is most important device in the AI.

The LIDAR consist of emitter, mirror and receiver.

The emitter send out a LASER beam that bounces off a mirror along with
the cylindrical housing at 10 revolution per minute.

The LASER beam returns to mirror and is bounced back towards the receiver,
where it can be interpreted into data.

The vehicle can then generate map of its surrounding and use the map to
avoid the objects.
TECHNOLOGY
The AI technology used in the google’s
robotic car is the range finder mounted
on the top is a velodyne 64 beam laser.

The laser allows the vehicle to

generate detailed 3D map of its
environment .The car than takes these
generated map and combine them with
high resolution maps of the world,
producing different types of data
models that allow it to drive itself.
why should we use AI in car ?
Data from automated cars can be used to determine traffic violations and claims. From
an insurance perspective, AI can be of help to determine the: Driver risk assessment.
Using AI, a driver's behavior can be accurately gauged and, based on the risk profile, the
cost of insurance could adjust accordingly.

Benefits of Artificial Intelligence In Automobile Industry

1- Driver Assist.
2- Driverless Automobiles.
3 - AI Cloud Computing.
4- Predictive maintenance.
5 - AI Automotive insurance.
6 - AI-Powered Driver Risk Assessment.
7 - AI in Car Manufacturing.
8- Driver Monitoring.

ARTIFICIAL INTELIGENCE IN ELECTRIC
VEHICLE

Modern technologies like AI have also improved the battery charging technology
of electric vehicles, and reduced the time it takes to stop at a gas station. Hence,
electric vehicle companies are using artificial intelligence to monitor the state of
the battery as it is charging
Artificial intelligence could help to create long-lasting electric vehicle (EV) batteries
that charge faster. Standard EV batteries tend to be recharged quickly at first, and
then more slowly
artificial intelligence has made dreams like recharging an EV in the time it takes to
stop at a gas station a more likely reality, and could help improve other aspects
of battery technology.
BATTRIES :
The most common battery type in modern electric vehicles are lithium-
ion and lithium polymer, because of their high energy density compared to
their weight. Other types of rechargeable batteries used in electric vehicles
include lead–acid nickel-cadmium, nickel–metal hydride, and, less
commonly, zinc–air, and sodium nickel chloride ("zebra") batteries. The
amount of electricity (i.e. electric charge) stored in batteries is measured
in ampere hours or in coulombs, with the total energy often measured
in kilowatt-hours
Typical PEV battery pack :
Typical PEV battery pack :

A pure electric vehicle (PEV), also known as all-electric vehicle, operates solely on
electricity
The battery charge can be additionally extended while the vehicle is being
operated through the regenerative braking system. The otherwise lost kinetic
energy from braking is saved in a storage battery which can be used later to
power the motor when in need. When the vehicle is not in use, the battery pack is
recharged by plugging the vehicle into an external electric power source such as a
charging station or a home outlet.
They are able to convert about 59%-62% of the electrical energy provided by the
grid to power the wheels. Their driving range on a full charge typically ranges
between 60-100 miles.
PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE :

On a technical scale, plug-in hybrid electric

vehicles are conceptually more similar to the
all electric car than they are to the traditional
internal combustion vehicles. The traditional
car requires an internal combustion engine (ICE)
to rotate a drive shaft which propels the car.
Instead of an engine, PHEVs use four motors,
one in each wheel, which relies on electricity to
run the vehicle. Contrary to the pure electric
vehicles which do not have an engine, plug-in
hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV’s) possess both
an internal combustion engine and an electric
motor which uses a battery pack module
stored-on board, as in an all- electric vehicle
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
