PROPOSAL FOR YOUTH COMMUNITY ACTION

TITLE: “KAWAYAN PARA SA KAAYUHAN : A BAMBOO PLANTING

PROJECT ”
PROPONENT: Venson Ray F. Olaguer
DATE: May 18, 2020
RATIONALE:
Barangay Talustusan is a wonderful place to live in however
situated in a dangerous prone area - a landslide. The people are
distressed on what might happen to their beloved homeland in the
coming years. This problem was noticed and brought about by our
current SK Chairperson into one of his platform in running. That is
to mitigate such disaster by implementing tree planting.
The proponent also noticed this unbearable situation and was
able to brought a project filled with ideas to somehow resolve the
problem. The project is so called “KAWAYAN PARA SA
KAAYUHAN : A BAMBOO PLANTING PROJECT ”. It suggest to
plant bamboo trees other than any trees because the proponent see
particular benefits and advantages when this certain tree is
cultivated.
Firstly, bamboo tree is a very common tree in Barangay
Talustusan and it is not hard to find because the place is abundant
with it. The project will not have a hard time or will not cost much
money gathering seedlings to propagate because of its abundance.
Secondly, it grows fast more than other trees knowingly that it is
the fastest growing tree in the whole world (LewisBamboo, 2002).
With that, the faster it grows the stronger the protection to soil
could be since trees control soil from erosion by it’s roots.
Furthermore, DENR (2012), says that the bamboo tree has a wide-
spreading root system capable of holding loose soil. In other
words, the tree is deep-rooted and best suited against landslides.
Lastly, another word from the DENR (2012) stated that Eastern
Visayas, the region where the this place belongs to, is tagged by
Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau (MGB) as landslide-prone and it
promotes the cultivation of bamboo trees.
Seeing these benefits eagerly pushes the proponent to impart
and voice out the idea of planting bamboo tree in preventing
landslides in the area. Other than that, it is also used for different
practical uses and we could create many different things from it.

OBJECTIVE(S): This project sets the following objectives:

 To mitigate soil erosion and landslide which causes
discomfort and distress among the residents of
Barangay Talustusan.
 To support and offer ideas and action to one of our SK
Chairperson’s platform which is a tree planting activity.
 To enlighten the people how beneficial bamboo tree is
when there are a lot of it being cultivated and
propagated.
