On March 22, 1897, two

Katipunan factions, the
Magdiwang and the Magdalo,
gathered in the friar estate's
administration building in
Tejeros, San Francisco de
Malabon, Cavite. According to
the memoirists Artemio
Ricarte and Santiago Alvarez,
the gathering on March 22 had
two apparent goals: the
planned defense of the freed
region of Cavite against the
HISTORICAL EVENT Spanish and the election of a
revolutionary government.

When it came time to address

the revolutionary government's
restructuring, the meeting was
first presided over by Jacinto
Lumbreras, a member of the
Magdiwang group. They
would subsequently hand over
the chair to Bonifacio. With its
organization and officials, the
Katipunan was a well-
organized revolutionary
movement. With provincial
units, it had a well-established
framework in place. However,
ideas to either alter and revise
the Katipunan organization or
replace it with a revolutionary
government organization arose
during the Imus meeting on
December 31, 1896.
