14. To teach the application of probability a maths teacher arranged a surprise game for 5 of his students
namely Govind, Girish, Vinod, Abhishek and Ankit. He took a bowl containing tickets numbered 1 to 50
and told the students go one by one and draw two tickets simultaneously from the bowl and replace it
after noting the numbers.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions.

i. Teacher ask Govind, what is the probability that tickets are drawn by Abhishek, shows a prime
number on one ticket and a multiple of 4 on other ticket?
ii. Teacher ask Girish, what is the probability that tickets drawn by Ankit, shows an even number on
first ticket and an odd number on second ticket?

Section A

1. Let, I =

= (completing the square)

Put x - = t Then dx = dt
=

OR

Let I = sin3 x cos x dx

Now let sin x - t. Then, d (sin x) = dt cos x dx - dt
Put sin x = t and , we get

I = sin3 x cos x dx = t3 cos x

2. We have,

Integrating both the sides we get,

...( 3 = c)

3.

Hence they are unit vectors

Similarly
and
and
So they are to each other.
4. Let the equation of a plane parallel to the given plane be
3x + 2y - z = k ...(i)
This passes through (2, -1, 1) So,
3(2) + 2(-1) - (1) = k
k = 3
Substituting this in equation (i), we get
3x + 2y - z = 3, which is the equation of the required plane.
5. Since , we have
C + 2C + 2C + 3C + C2 + 2C2 + 7C2 + C = 1
i.e., 10C2 + 9C - 1 = 0
i.e., (10C - 1) (C + 1) = 0
either (10C- 1)=0 or (C+1)=0
(C = -1 cannot be possible. probability can not be negative)
Therefore, the permissible value of .

Mean =

= 3.66
6. P(Kamal gets selected) = P(A) =
P(Monica gets selected) = P(B) =
P( atleast one of them gets selected) =
= P(A) + P(B) - P(A B)
= P(A) + P(B) - P(A) P(B) [since A and B are independent events]

Section B
7. According to the question,

Adding Equations (i) and (ii),

8. The equation of the family of curves is y = emx ...(i)

where m is a parameter.
This equation contains only one parameter, therefore, we shall get a differential equation of first order.
Differentiating equation (i) with respect to x, we have,

... [Using equation (i)]

...(ii)
Now, from equation (i), we have,
In y = In emx
In y = mx In e
In y = mx
...(iii)
Comparing equations (ii) and (iii), we have,

It is required differential equation.

It is passing through (1,2)
- log 1 =log 2 + c
c = - log 2
Put c in equation (1)

P lies on the plane, so point P satisfy the plane.
Substitute (iii) in (ii) , we get

Put in Eq.(iii), we get point of intersection p (2,-1,2).

11. According to the question ,

Put , tan x = t
sec2 x dx = dt

....(i) [ (a3 + b3) =(a + b) (a2 - ab + b2)]

By using partial fractions ,

Let ...(ii)

t = A(t2 - t + 1) + (Bt + C) (1 + t)
t = (A + B)t2 + (-A + B + C)t + (A + C)...(iii)
On putting t = -1 in Eq. (iii), we get

On equating the coefficients of t2 , t and constant terms on both sides in Eq. (iii), we get
A + B = 0

From equation (i) and (ii) , we get

Solving the given equation of circle, 4x2 + 4y2 = 9, and parabola, x2 = 4y, we obtain the point of
intersection as
B and D
It can be observed that the required area is symmetrical about y-axis.
Area OBCDO = 2 Area OBCO
We draw BM perpendicular to OA.
Therefore, the coordinates of M are ( , 0)
Therefore, Area OBCO = Area OMBCO - Area OMBO

Therefore, the required area OBCDO = = sq. units.
