Bago Aplaya by Macario D. Tiu presents a culture of Bago Aplaya in Davao City.

This poem became significant to the culture since it presents the life of the fishermen in

that place. Fishing became their source of livelihood. They make living because of their

day-to- day journey at water.

In the first lines of the poem, it shows happiness of the fishermen because of the

new equipment. It is significant in the culture of the people in that community also

Filipinos that whenever a new thing comes, it must be graced and must received a

blessing from religious persons or group. But, the author changes the mood of the poem

at the middle. This simply creates an image that not every day, fishermen can collect

fishes. It is been also their culture that they are willing to wait when the best time

comes.

The poem is also a representation of their culture of the community for it

showcases their livelihood as fishers.
