I. Project Profile
Title of the Project: Mangrove Tree Planting
Proponents: Jeremy Demate together with the Christian Catholic Youth
Clan of Barangay Gata
Project Site: Barangay Gata, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur
Project Duration: May 31, 2022
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
7hours and 30minutes
Total Project Cost: Php.4,200.00
II. Project Information
Introduction: Mangroves are tidal mudflats and shallow water coastal
habitats that extend inland along rivers, streams, and their
tributaries where the water is often brackish. The goal is to
assist the people of Barangay Gata minimize soil erosion and
flooding during thunderstorms. They are subject to floods when
disasters strike. This will help with the situation.
During storm flooding, the seaside town was protected,
saving lives and belongings. Not This project will not only
assist the community, but it will also educate children about the
importance of mangroves in the environment. This will aid in
the development of strong collaboration skills in the community
while also decreasing the consequences of global warming
caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other
pollutants in the atmosphere. Shock absorbers are found in
mangroves. Mangroves help to reduce soil erosion by reducing
high tides and waves.
They also give employment options for coastal residents.
The participation of the Local people should be involved in
conservation and management. In order to construct a floristic
survey of mangroves along the coast will be conducted to create
a mangrove biodiversity map. Consequently,
While mangrove forests play an important role in providing
more valued ecological services, their scientific importance has
been questioned. Not only for humanity's well-being, but also
for coastal biodiversity, management is crucial.
Rationale: Because they are home to a varied spectrum of species,
mangroves are biodiversity hotspots. They are used for nesting
and breeding by fish and shellfish, migratory birds, and marine
turtles. Furthermore, the fishermen and farmers with whom we
engage are reliant on the natural world to feed their families.
Healthy mangrove ecosystems mean healthy fisheries and
healthy land for fishing and farming. As a result, I, Jeremy
Demate, an environmental science student together with the
Christian Catholic Youth Clan of Barangay Gata, intend to
carry out a project. On May 31, 2022, this project will be
carried out at Barangay Gata, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.
Project Description: This project is all about working together to make the
world a better place to live. Mangroves may hold the answer to
a better living and a safer environment for the residents of
Barangay Gata. The Project site is warm and spacious, making
it perfect for planting a mangrove tree.
Objectives:  To conduct a mangrove planting program in the
community of Barangay Gata.
 To raise awareness of the importance of mangrove
ecosystems as a unique, special and vulnerable
ecosystem.
 To deepen the understanding on the importance of the
mangrove as a key role to reduce the calamities and
fight against global warming.
Significance of the Project: The significance of this project is to assist Barangay Gata
in remaining safe in the event of a typhoon. Strong waves and
storm surges are defended and buffered. Aids in soil erosion
prevention. Assist in reducing water pollution. Water catchment
areas help to prevent flooding. Fisheries production is sustained
and improved.
