■ MAINTENANCE MODE

Note

• When in maintenance mode, the clearance between the disc pad and the disc plate expands.

• When the maintenance mode is completed, perform the electric parking brake automatic
adjustment.

• With the electric parking brake automatic adjustment, the electric parking brake motor gear unit
operation time is longer than normal.

Switching To Maintenance Mode

Caution

• When performing the procedure while the vehicle is on the ground, block the front and rear wheels
using wheel blocks. Otherwise, the vehicle may move when the electric parking brake is released.

1.Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2.Release the electric parking brake.

3.Switch the ignition off, and then switch the ignition ON (engine off) within 5 s while maintaining the
following conditions.

• Press the electric parking brake switch.

• Depress the accelerator pedal fully.

4.Verify that the electric parking brake warning light is illuminated in an amber color and the mode is
switched to maintenance mode.

5.Switch the ignition off.

Ending Maintenance Mode

1.Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2.Switch the ignition off, and then switch the ignition ON (engine off) within 5 s while maintaining the
following conditions.

• Pull up the electric parking brake switch.

• Depress the accelerator pedal fully.

3.Verify that the electric parking brake warning light turns off and the maintenance mode is ended.

4.Switch the ignition off.

■ ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Caution

• If the electric parking brake switch is not operated after replacing it, the electric parking brake will
not operate/release normally. If the electric parking brake switch is replaced, operate the electric
parking brake switch.

1.Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.Remove the console side panel. (See CONSOLE SIDE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.Remove the switch panel. (See SWITCH PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.Remove the screws.

5.Remove the electric parking brake switch.

6.Install in the reverse order of removal.

7.If the electric parking brake switch is replaced, perform the following procedure.

Note

• The electric parking brake does not operate/release even if the electric parking brake switch is
operated in the following procedure (1), (2).

(1)Pull up the electric parking brake switch. (2)Press the electric parking brake switch. (3)Operate
the electric parking brake switch again and verify that the electric parking brake operates/releases.

• If the electric parking brake can be operated/released, clear the DTC in the electric parking brake
control module using the M-MDS. (SeeCLEARING DTC [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)

• If the electric parking brake cannot be operated/released, perform a DTC inspection as a


malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred. (SeeDTC INSPECTION [ELECTRIC
PARKING BRAKE].)

1.Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2.Release the electric parking brake.

3.Switch the ignition off.

4.Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

5.Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector.

6.Remove the bolts.

7.Remove the electric parking brake motor gear unit.

8.Install in the reverse order of removal.

■ ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH INSPECTION

Continuity Inspection

1.Remove the upper panel and electric parking brake switch as a single unit. (See ELECTRIC PARKING
BRAKE SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.Verify that the continuity is as indicated in the table.

• If not as indicated in the table, replace the electric parking brake switch.

Illumination Light Inspection

Note

• The illumination light is built into the electric parking brake switch. If there is any malfunction,
replace the electric parking brake switch.

1.Remove the electric parking brake switch. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.Apply battery positive voltage to electric parking brake switch terminal I, and connect terminal J to
ground.

3.Verify that the illumination light turns on.

• If there is any malfunction, replace the electric parking brake switch.

Indicator Light Inspection

Note

• The indicator light is built into the electric parking brake switch. If there is any malfunction, replace
the electric parking brake switch.

1.Remove the electric parking brake switch. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.Apply battery positive voltage to electric parking brake switch terminal K, and connect terminal L to
ground.

3.Verify that the indicator light turns on.

• For the electric parking brake motor gear unit, on-board diagnosis of the internal circuit or operation
condition is performed by the electric parking brake control module, therefore, inspection as a single
unit is not required.

■ ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Note

• The electric parking brake control module records the vehicle specification information and the
electric parking brake operation/release condition.

• A new electric parking brake control module has not record of the vehicle specification information
and the electric parking brake operation/release condition.

• When the ignition is switched ON (engine off or on) after replacing the electric parking brake control
module, the module reads and records the vehicle specification information sent via CAN
communication from the instrument cluster.

• When the electric parking brake is operated/released after replacing the electric parking brake
control module, the module checks the related parts and records the electric parking brake
operation/release condition.

1.Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2.Release the electric parking brake.

3.Switch the ignition off.

4.Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.Remove the following parts:

(1)Console side panel (See CONSOLE SIDE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (2)Switch


panel (See SWITCH PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (3)Cup holder (See CUP HOLDER
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (4)Shift lever knob (MTX) (See SHIFT LEVER
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [C66M-R].) (5)Selector lever knob (ATX) (See SELECTOR LEVER
COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (6)Shift panel (See SHIFT PANEL
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (7)Front console box (See FRONT CONSOLE BOX
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (8)Side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (9)Rear
console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (10)Rear vent duct No.2 (with rear
vent duct) (See REAR VENT DUCT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.Disconnect the electric parking brake control module connector.

7.Remove the nuts.

8.Remove the electric parking brake control module.

9.Install in the reverse order of removal.

10.If the electric parking brake control module is replaced, perform the automatic configuration and
related parts check using the following procedure.

(1)Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 30 s or more. (2)Switch the ignition off
and wait for 3 s or more. (3)Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) to allow the electric parking
brake control module automatic configuration to be completed. (4)Using the M-MDS, perform a DTC
inspection and verify that DTCs U2300:55/U2300:56 are not displayed. (See DTC INSPECTION
[ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)

• If DTCs U2300:55/U2300:56 are displayed, go to the DTC troubleshooting procedure. (SeeDTC
TABLE [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)

(5)Operate the electric parking brake and perform the related parts check. (6)Release the electric
parking brake. (7)Verify that the brake system warning light and the electric parking brake warning
light turn off.

• If the brake system warning light and the electric parking brake warning light do not turn off, perform
a DTC inspection because an electric parking brake malfunction may have occurred. (SeeDTC
INSPECTION [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)

(8)Operate the electric parking brake again. (9)Verify that the brake system warning light turns on
and the electric parking brake warning light turns off.

• If the brake system warning light does not turn on or flashes, or the electric parking brake warning
light does not turn off, perform a DTC inspection because an electric parking brake malfunction may
have occurred. (SeeDTC INSPECTION [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)

■ ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE FORCED RELEASE PROCEDURE

Caution

• Perform the electric parking brake forced release if the electric parking brake cannot be released by
operating the electric parking brake switch or performing a recovery operation using the ignition
switch due to a malfunction in the system or a discharged battery.

• Perform a DTC inspection before performing the electric parking brake forced release, and perform
the procedure after verifying the malfunctioning location. (SeeDTC INSPECTION [ELECTRIC
PARKING BRAKE].)

Note

• The clearance between the disc plate and disc pads is expanded after an electric parking brake
forced release, therefore operation of the electric parking brake motor gear unit when the electric
parking brake switch is initially operated after the servicing may take longer than normal.

1.Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.Remove the electric parking brake motor gear unit. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR
UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.Rotate the spindle approx. 2 times in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

5.Rotate the disc plate and verify if the electric parking brake has been released.

• If the electric parking brake has not been released, rotate the spindle approx. 1 time in the same
direction shown in Step 4 and verify if the electric parking brake has been released.

6.Install the electric parking brake motor gear unit. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR
UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7.Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

8.Operate the electric parking brake switch using the following procedure to verify the operation of the
electric parking brake and perform the automatic adjustment.

(1)Switch the ignition ON (engine off). (2)Operate the electric parking brake.

• If the electric parking brake cannot be operated, release it once and then try to re-operate it.

― If the electric parking brake cannot be operated/released, perform a DTC inspection as a


malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred. (SeeDTC INSPECTION [ELECTRIC
PARKING BRAKE].)

(3)Verify that the electric parking brake indicator light turns on and the electric parking brake
warning light turns off.

• If the electric parking brake indicator light does not turn on, the electric parking brake indicator light
flashes, or the electric parking brake warning light does not turn off, perform a DTC inspection as a
malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred. (SeeDTC INSPECTION [ELECTRIC
PARKING BRAKE].)

(4)Release the electric parking brake. (5)Verify that the electric parking brake indicator light and the
electric parking brake warning light turn off.

• If the electric parking brake indicator light and the electric parking brake warning light do not turn off,
perform a DTC inspection as a malfunction of the electric parking brake may have occurred.
