One is work for hire, where a publisher and a developer agree to the pay for a
game to be made, then once the game is complete the publisher pays the
developer the flat fee. After the game is made and the developer gets paid, the
developer then has no rights to the any parts of the game and gets paid no more
than what they agreed on, no matter how well the game does. OR. A Publishers
licensing agreement where the publisher pays the developer the costs of making
the game, and they pay it out in increments as the developer completes parts of
the game. Then when the game is released, and the developer has been paid the
flat fee for the game, the developer gets paid a percentage of the sales of the
profit of the game. They can also take a percentage of the merchandise sales. In a
licensing agreement the developer also has the right to agree or refuse to make a
prequel to said game.
