The Cisco Nexus 9336PQ ACI Spine Switch is

a 2-Rack-Unit (2RU) spine switch for Cisco
ACI that supports 2.88 Tbps of bandwidth
and 2.3 billion packets per second (bpps)
across 36 xed 40 QSFP+ ports. Cisco Nexus
9300 platform leaf switches are Layer 2 and
3 nonblocking 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet
switches with up to 2.56 Terabits per second
(Tbps) of internal bandwidth.
Cisco Nexus 9364C Switch

The Cisco Nexus 9364C ACI Spine Switch is

a 2-Rack-Unit (2RU) spine switch for Cisco
ACI that supports 12.84 Tbps of bandwidth
and 4.3 bpps across 64 xed 40/100G QSFP28
ports and 2 xed 1/10G SFP+ ports. Breakout
is not supported on ports 1 to 64. The last 16
ports marked in green support wire-rate
MACsec encryption.

Cisco Nexus 9332C Switch

The Cisco Nexus 9332C is the smallest form-factor

1-Rack-Unit (1RU) spine switch for Cisco ACI that
supports 6.4 Tbps of bandwidth and 2.3 bpps across 32
xed 40/100G QSFP28 ports and 2 xed 1/10G SFP+
ports. Breakout is not supported on ports 1 to 32. The
last 8 ports marked in green support wire-rate MACsec
encryption.

specications

The connectivity to the nodes is

provided by the following line
cards.
N9K-X9736PQ line card
N9K-X9732C-EX/ N9K-X9736C-EX line card
N9K-X9736C-FX/ N9K-X9736C-EX line card
(which requires Cisco ACI software Release 3.0 or
newer)

In second Generation Cisco Nexus ACI Switches there
are two categorizations: Nexus 9300-EX and 9300-FX
platform switches.
Some of the EX and FX Series switches are :
Cisco Nexus 93108TC-EX,93180LC-EX, 93180YC-
EX,9372PX-E,9372TX-E,93108TCFX,

Cisco Nexus 9396PX Switch

The Cisco Nexus 9396PX Switch is a 2-rack-unit (2RU)
switch that supports 1.92 Tbps of bandwidth across 48
xed 10-Gbps Enhanced Small Form-Factor Pluggable
(SFP+) ports and 12 xed 40-Gbps Enhanced Quad SFP
(QSFP+) ports.

Cisco Nexus 93128TX

The Cisco Nexus 93128TX Switch is a 3RU switch that

supports 2.56 Tbps across 96 xed 1/10GBASE-T ports
and 8 xed 40-Gbps QSFP ports.

The 40-Gbps ports for the Cisco Nexus 9396PX and

93128TX are provided on an uplink module that can be
serviced and replaced by the user. The uplink module is
the same for all switches; if it is used with the Cisco
Nexus 93128TX, the rst 8 of the 12 x 40-Gbps QSFP+
ports will be available.

Naming conventions for the leaf

nodes

Following are the naming convention for (N9K-C93xx)

and spine line cards (N9K-X97xx) available for the Cisco
ACI fabric.
The trailing -E and -X signify the following:
E : E n h a n c e d The switch is capable to classify trafc
into EPGs based on the source IP address of the
incoming trafc.
X : A n a l y t i c s Hardware is capable to support analytics
functions. The hardware that supports analytics
includes other
enhancements in the policy CAM, buffering capabilities,
and ability to classify trafc into EPGs.
For port speeds, the naming conventions are as follows:
PX: 1/10-Gbps Enhanced Small Form-Factor Pluggable
(SFP+)
TX: 100-Mbps, 1-Gbps, and 10GBASE-T copper
Y: 10/25-Gbps SFP+
Q: 40-Gbps Quad SFP+ (QSFP+) , C: 100-Gbps QSFP28

APIC
APIC Controller Hardware:
For APIC controller Cisco uses UCS series Servers,
Below is the specication:
UCS C Series Server: C220 M3 ( used as generation 1 )
UCS C Series Server: C220 M4 ( used as generation 2 )
AC I D C S i z i n g :
up to 80 leaf: use 3 APIC cluster
up to 300 leaf: use 5 APIC cluster
up to 400 leaf: use 7 APIC cluster
Currently, APIC controller’s uses are between (3-7) N+2,
But the roadmap is to scale up between (3-31).

Summary

The Switches which are used for Spine ( mostly 9500 ),

these switches have ASE ( ACI Spine Engine ) chipset on
the line card. The Switches which are used for Leaf (
mostly 9300 ), these switches have ALE ( ACI leaf
Engine ) chipset.

A centralized Controller for policy management and

network provisioning.
Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC)
programmatically automates network provisioning and
control based on application requirements and policies.
It Integrates the physical and virtual infrastructure
along with an open ecosystem of network, storage,
management, and orchestration vendors.
All provisioning of the ACI fabric is done by the APIC
controller, it is the controller that stores all
congurations of the ACI fabric.
Spine Switches: It is used to connect the leaf switch and
also handles fabric communication by storing endpoint
information in the Spine Proxy table.
Leaf Switches: Leaf switch acts as the entry point of the
ACI fabric, where all host, External services, Servers that
need communication to ACI fabric is connected.

A Virtual Switch (AVS) or DVS :

ACI provides a consistent virtual switch infrastructure

between ACI fabrics and the Cisco Nexus 1000V virtual
switch for existing data center fabrics. ACI is also
compatible with DVS from another vendor such as
VMware for the virtual network edge
