Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production

and Technology
Project proposal template
In producing the project proposal, and in preparing for the project realisation you should
familiarise yourself with Unit 8 of the qualification.

In particular, you should understand the assessment and grading criteria which will be
used to determine standards of achievement.

Unit 8 requires you to produce a project proposal of about 350 words, excluding the
project action plan and bibliography. Project proposals should not be so succinct that
they do not address the requirements listed below, nor should they be excessively long
and unfocused.

Your project proposal should be sufficiently challenging to ensure you have the best
possible chance of meeting the grading criteria.
Your project proposal should include:
 Centre name and number
 Candidate name and number
 Project proposal title and date
 Main area of activity/ pathway

The project proposal must be word processed and presented under the headings listed
here:

Section 1 - Rationale
(Approximately 150 words)

This section provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise your
progress and achievements through the first 7 units of the qualification.

You should outline the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired. What
you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do
before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of discipline or
disciplines and your project proposal.

Section 2 – Project concept

(Approximately 200 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of
your project, production or performance and the research and ideas that will support its
development. What you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you
will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final
realisation within the allocated timescale.

This might include an indication of when and how you will use studios, equipment and
other resources, how you will make use of tutorial and peer feedback and where you will
incorporate independent study.

Section 3 - Evaluation
(Approximately 150 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on and
evaluate your work, as both an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of your project.

You should describe how you intend to record your decision-making and how you will
document changes to your ideas as your work progresses.

The evaluation should be referenced to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical
rather than a description of actions completed.

When working in collaboration with others you should comment on how this may impact
either positively or negatively and steps you can take to minimise disruption in your own
progress.

Additional requirements, not included in the 350 word limit of the proposal:

Project action plan and timetable:

This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation
over a period of weeks and the activities you will need to carry out in order to
successfully complete your project in the agreed time frame. The more time and thought
you give to planning your project, the more successful it is likely to be.

It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the
realisation of the project. You should also include what you are going to do, how you will
do it and by when. Remember to include: time spent sourcing materials and other
resources to conduct research, seek feedback from tutors and peers, and identify when
you will carry out independent study.

Bibliography (Harvard Format):

This section provides an opportunity to record the initial research sources, both primary
and secondary, that you intend to use.
Your sources of research should be as wide as possible and could include libraries,
galleries, books, magazines, films, computer games, websites, blogs, social media, radio
programmes
, archive material etc. Where appropriate, you should use the Harvard system of
referencing. The bibliography should be continuously updated as the project progresses.

Section 1: Review (Approx 150 words)

Over the last few years of this course, I have developed not only practical
media skills such as directing, using a camera etc, but I have also improved
my confidence overall. I came into this course thinking I was going to fail due
to my anxiety issues, however, over the years I have gained so much
confidence and skills I feel like I’m going to finish this course with (hopefully)
a good grade and a lot of skills that I didn’t even know I had. I can now
confidently direct a group of strangers I’ve never met before, pitch in front of
a panel, which I wouldn’t have ever done in a million years if it wasn’t for this
course, and edit in post-production on Premier Pro with little/no guidance. My
biggest highlight throughout this course is winning ‘media production
student of the year’ which I could not believe as it was out of my whole class
and I got chosen by my tutors and my peers to win this due to my gain in
confidence throughout the project.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx 200 words)
I have a passion for media and football so I thought I would do a football
podcast as it combines both. The idea of my project is weekly 20 minute
podcasts (every Friday) to discuss global football news and topics over the
recent week. However, for the last 5 remaining minutes I will also discuss
local football news and events such as Bristol City FC and Weston Super
Mare AFC. This is one of my unique selling points as I’ve researched and I
have found that there isn’t even one podcast dedicated to Weston Super Mare
AFC, so hopefully this will bring in a lot of local listeners. Throughout the
series, there will be debates, where listeners can actually go on the podcast
to debate the topics we are speaking about. As well as this, I will have certain
special episodes dedicated to important topics such as: ‘mental health in
football, the pressure within football etc.’ I will also have special guests on
the podcast including footballers and notable players, I have already
contacted a lot of WSM AFC players and have got a response from one. A few
of the co-presenters will be my classmates Alex Cremer and Sid Sugg as they
are open to do this with me and they also have a passion for football, which
is what a presenter will need as they can easily speak about the topic
convincingly.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx 150 words)
Throughout the project, I have consistently been reflecting and evaluating my
project progress via weekly write ups on my Weebly. For example, with my
pitch, it was recorded so I looked back at my presentation to the panel and
assessed the feedback I was given so I can see what went really well, what
went wrong and how to correct/improve this for future projects/works. An
example of this, is that they really liked the idea that I was going to speak
about local teams on my podcast and they believe I should focus more
towards local, so I’m considering about changing my podcast schedule and
dedicating a bit more time to the local football news/topics. After I’ve finished
the entire project, I am going to carry on evaluating using my Weebly. I will
have a lot of important feedback from peers and tutors as I will be screening
my finished project to the class. They can leave their feedback on Microsoft
Forms which I can assess so I can see what was liked best about it, and what
could be improved, similar to what has been done with my pitch.
