1. Letter to letter – Direct Translation:

Example: If MOUSE is coded as ZYPXQ, then what will SOME be coded as?
Hint: Every letter is coded as another letter, without any logic behind.
SOME will be coded as XYZQ.
2. Letter to letter – Mathematical operations

Example: If DEALER is coded as IIDNFR, then what is the code for BOTTLE?
Hint: Every letter goes through a mathematical operation.

3. Letter to number (or vice versa) – Direct translation:

Example: If CAMERA is coded as 246814, then which word will be coded as 4681724?
Hint: Every letter is coded as a number, without any logic behind.
In this case, since I is not a part of the given translation, the right answer may have a random letter
assigned to it.
4891724 can be a code for the word AMERICA.
4. Letter to number (or vice versa) – Position in the English alphabet

Example: If DRAMA is coded as 1491214, then what is the code for TABLE?
Hint: The difference of the position of two consecutive letters is the code.
D to R: 14 letters
R to A: 9 letters
A to M: 12 letters
M to A: 14 letters
Similarly, for the term TABLE:
T to A: 7 letters
A to B: 1 letter
B to L: 10 letters
L to E: 19 letters
TABLE will be coded as 711019
5. Letters to symbols (or vice versa) – Direct translation:

Example: If DENIM is coded as #$%@}, then what will be coded as }@%#?
Hint: Every letter is coded as a symbol, without any logic behind.
D - #, E - $, N - %, I - @, M - }
} – M, @ - I, % - N, # - D
}@%# is the code for MIND.
6. Word to word – Direct translation:

Example: If “Bananas are yellow” is coded as “Dim Sum Pin”, “Yellow is bright” is coded as “Con Pin Fum”,
and “Jokes are funny” is coded as “Bum Jam Dim”, then what is the code for “Bananas”?
Hint: Every word is coded as another word, but the order of placement may not be the same. Compare
two or more statements to confirm the translation.
Statement 1:
Bananas are yellow

Dim Sum Pin
Statement 2:
Yellow is bright
Con Pin Fum
Since “yellow” and “Pin” are common in both the statements and both the translations, it is confirmed
that “yellow” is coded as “Pin”.
Similarly,
Statement 1:
Bananas are yellow

Dim Sum Pin
Statement 2:
Jokes are funny
Bum Jam Dim
Since “are” and “Dim” are common in both the statements and both the translations, it is confirmed that
“are” is coded as “Dim”.
Word Banana are yellow

7. Continuous translation:
Example: If Green is translated as Blue, Blue is translated as Yellow, Yellow is translated as Purple, and
Purple is translated as White, what is the color of sky?
Hint: Every word has a translation, but translates only once.
Sky is Blue in color. But, Blue is translated as Yellow.
So, in this case, sky is Yellow in color.

SOLUTIONS:
1. Option B
Since a code having ‘5’ does not contain the word ‘In’, we can eliminate option C.
Since the codes that contain the words ‘English’ and ‘Funny’ do not have the number ‘5’ in them, we
can eliminate ‘English’ and ‘Funny’.
