Project Report Guidelines and Topics
This report will be used for comprehensive evaluation of this course (40 marks).
Each student will individually prepare and submit a final report on assigned topic.
Last date for project report submission will be notified by the exam dept (during exam week).
Please submit a PDF file with your name as the title in the designated folder on course-page.
Following guidelines are to be strictly followed for preparation and submission of this report.
Each student is allocated an industry (in Indian context) for study, as follows:
N NAME INDUSTRY
O
01 Harshil Thadesar AUTOMOBILES
For the allocated industry, a student will prepare a comprehensive report after selection of two
important organizations within the industry. (e.g. 1) Maruti Suzuki and 2) Tata Motors for
Automobiles industry). Please try to select (as much as possible) two organizations who are contrasting
in some way (i.e. being in the same industry, there are some significant differences in terms any
parameter(s) like- age/size/ownership pattern/business strategy/organizational vision or
philosophy/culture/life cycle stage/international presence/performance in industry or anything
relevant. The main objective of your study should be to compare how two organizations in the same
industry approach their human resource management strategy/systems/processes in (somewhat)
different way, reflected in their practices. You are likely to find many similarities in the HR practices
too but the idea is to perform an evaluation of how they align their HR strategy with their business
strategy, irrespective of their similarities and differences.

Expectation from the Project Report
Through extensive research from all available sources, the researcher is first required to present a brief
idea about each organization’s objectives, vision, mission, values, and (if possible) competitive strategy.
Following this, the Human Resources strategy of the organization needs to be critically presented, with
necessary details. You can link the data/facts/observations with theoretical/conceptual frameworks and
models studied in this course or elsewhere.
The idea is to establish that organizations formulate and execute their HR strategies, policies and
practices (primarily in the area of staffing, learning and development, compensation and benefits,
performance management, employee engagement/relations, organizational design and culture and
communication) with an attempt to integrate or align them with their business strategy and try to achieve
competitive advantage.
A critical examination of the success/failure achieved in this aspect will be highly appreciated. A student
should look up all relevant sources including (but not limited to) company’s annual reports, official
communication, industry observers’ analysis, critical comments in media, reports, surveys, interviews,
case studies, etc.
Present only the basic information about the assigned industry (e.g. size, growth rate, projection, number
of companies, critical features, competition, etc.).
Present essentials like age, size, scale, ownership pattern, name of CEO/MD, current performance, etc.
