 TWO ASPECTS OF LITERARY DEVICES:
A. Literary Elements – are not the writer’s use of techniques. Sometimes it can be found include
characterization, conflict, and setting. They may be about the book’s setting, the story
the characters.
B. Literary Techniques – are structures usually word/s or phrases in literary texts that writers em
achieve not merely artistic ends but also readers a greater understanding and apprec
their literary works. Examples are metaphor, simile, alliteration, hyperbole, allegory, e

Guidelines in Writing a Critique Paper

a. INTRODUCTORY – this paragraph gives the background of the material, your opinion on the work a
whole. The background includes all of the relevant information like, who wrote
material, when and where he wrote it, and of course, what his purpose was, wh

b. DEVELPOMENT – these paragraphs can vary in length and number. The paragraphs may focus on
different parts of elements of the short story or how you asses the story’s plot. C

c. CONCLUDING – here you give your general impression of the story. Did you enjoy it? In general, a
