Ministry To Children
Ministry To Children
Introduction:
In the Bible, children are seen as gift of God and can bring both joy and sorrow. They are to be
loved, honored and respected as person; they are important in God’s kingdom and they are not to
be harmed. Jesus told let the children come to me. In Jesus mission children are important. To
day we are concerned in ministry. We are busy with different kinds of ministry. Children
ministry is one of the effective ministries in our Christian community. Because they the future of
our church, mission and society. Lacks of concern, many children are in wrong way. So as a
believer we have responsible for this children. Here I would like to spotlight about children
ministry as well as one key concern regarding children agony.
Need of children:
1) Children want to be noticed and they will by all means want to get the attention to feed
significant.
2) The sense of security is very much embedded in human nature. The sense of security
could be given to the child by there parents when they themselves enjoyed the security of
love between them.
3) The need of acceptance is universal even for grown ups. This sense of acceptance is
given to the child by the parent’s recognition their child’s uniqueness.
4) The need to love and be loved-one of the greatest happiness is the conviction that one is
loved and in the same way one may be extremely pleases to find someone whom one can
love. Children need to be loved and also want that we receive third love.
5) The need of praise – children is thrilled to be praise especially by significant ones.
Praising them sincerely for which they do on their own will highly satisfy their need for
praise.
6) The need of discipline – it will develop respect for its elders.
Molding of a child:
The bible teaches: “mold up a child in a way that he should go, even when he is old he will not
depart from it” (Prov. 22:6). He mold up a child the way he himself should go. To mold a child
the way he himself is to go involves discovering, developing and channeling his attitudes in the
1
way should go means that we need to know what each one is like. I should say that each child is
unique. Let our life be one of unfeigned faith that leaves and delights in doing Gods word. Such
faith will pass onto our children.
Now days, many churches are involving in India. Example, Union church, Bhubaneswar,
Cuttack Baptist church, Believer Church in India, (CSI) Church Krishnagar Calcutta, Baptist
church Manipur, all these churches are doing wonderful ministry among the children. And also
we can also see there is a completion among the churches how to conduct effective Sunday
school and also summer ministry. Overall in Indian most of the churches have a heart for
children.
Defining our ministry goals is the first step in developing a vital and interesting program for
children well defined goals to which you are committed become points of reference of deciding
questions about program approach, schedule etc. let’s consider several important goals for a
church, Christian ministry with children.
2
Identify his God given talents so he can develop and use them for God’s glory.
Serve and love others by finding opportunities to help and share his faith others.
When a child comes to church, he does not leave everything but his spiritual concerns at
home; he arrives with all of his needs and concerns. Thus, Christian education program
should be designed to meet physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. What an
opportunity to help the child understand that god is sufficient for every need he has!
A clinically hyperactive child is different from a child who can’t sit still for very long.
Hyperactive children are unable to concentrate on one thing at a time. They are in constant
motion mentally and often physically as well. Since such a child is unable to sit and listen or
even to work on one project for any length of time, he leaps from one distraction to another and
often distracts others at the same time.
In our ministry with children hyperactive child need our special love and patience. Such children
also need more adult guidance and attention. A hyperactive child may need individual attention
from a teacher or a leader of you program. Consultations with parents as to the most effective
ways to handle his hyperactive can also be beneficial.
Again the rule is to accept each child as he is. Every time there is positive behaviour be sure that
a child knows that you appreciate his efforts. Your good example of showing love to others by
encouraging and affirming them will also be help in teaching children how to relate to each
3
other. At the same time we need to be concerned with the welfare of all children._ If a child is
being aggressive enough to upset or harm another child, you will need to be firm but positive,
remove the aggressive child from the situation and clearly explain the behaviour necessary in
order to return.
Rehabilitation centers:
In order to provide protection to the children, various types of shelters and centers are provided
for them. They include:
Part time shelters, food and taking care of their health.
Open shelters
Residential centre for grown up children, education.
Residential center for smaller children.
Residential centers away from the city.
These shelters and centers are places where these children can find security and act as catalysts
for transitions form street to society.
Service:
In order to cater to the needs of children at risk, various services are offered to them.
Counseling:
Counseling is an indispensable element in the effort to restore confidence in the children at risk.
The staff, through their counseling offers support to the youngsters to make appropriate decisions
about their future.
Home placement:
The staff members talk to the children about their family situations and if the home atmosphere
appears conducive, the child in motivated to return to the family. In some case, the child is
accompanied to his home by the staff in order to counsel the parents.
Education:
Those children who are interested in continuing their education given opportunities for
schooling. Literacy programmers and value education are carried out for them.
Medication:
The staff on the street itself provides basic medical help. Children who have serious ailments are
helped to get treatment in hospital.
4
Non-institutional strategies:
We need to encourage non-institutional strategies in rehabilitating children at risk.
In this approach, the child should be the centre of our focus. This approach priorities the
relationship between the staff and the child, so that this relationship serves as a basis for the
child’s growth. In order to work effectively for the rehabilitation of children at risk, there should
be collaboration between the NGOs and the government departments.
Conclusion:
Our services for the children at risk greatly appreciated. In order to work effectively with this
group, we need to have commitment. A deep-rooted God – experience will help us to reach out
to this group to make them better Christian. We need to have more Christian leader, churches,
Christian organizations, and NGOs and individuals to undertake the task of helping the children
at risk.
