What is RECREATION?
• Derived from the latin word recreare which means to be refreshed.
• Relaxing the mind and the body.
• Relieves a day-to-day tension.
Recreational Activities
are often done for enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure and are considered to be “fun”.
gives opportunity to be creative, to express basic needs, and to be your real self.
Existence time – is the time spent for biological needs like having meal, sleeping and other personal care.
Subsistence time – refers to the hours spent for economic purposes such as going to work, chores, and for
students the hours spent in school and school work.
Type of Recreation
Active Type
• People have to function effectively in performing the action
Passive Type
• People have no excessive movement in performing the task or action.
SCOPE OF RECREATION
INDOOR RECREATION
They are undertaken on the comfort of one’s home or more specifically indoor and they are to recreate the
mind and soul.
There are well-established clubs or recreation centers that have well-equipped indoor leisure facilities,
which cater for sports activities for all ages and abilities, but it can be done just at home for simple activities.
OUTDOOR RECREATION
They are organized activities done during one’s free time for his/her own personal reasons where an
interaction between man and an element of nature is present.
