Mum : Hello?
Haikal : Hi, Mum. It’s me, Haikal. Dad and I are here at the supermarket. We arrived
here 10 minutes ago. We’ve got your list, and we’re doing the shopping, but
we’ve got some questions.
Mum : No problem, Haikal. What do you want to know?
Haikal : We’ve got the cakes and biscuits for my school snacks, but Dad and I don’t
know what type of oil to buy.
Mum : Get olive oil. I always cook with olive oil because it’s the healthiest type of oil
Haikal : Right, olive oil. Now, should we get orange juice or fizzy drinks?
Mum : Get both. We’ll have orange juice for breakfast and fizzy drinks for dinner
tonight.
Haikal : Speaking of dinner, you’re making beef with baked beans, right?
Mum : Yes, that’s right. Beef with baked beans is your dad’s favourite meal. It will be
ready in half an hour, so please hurry.
Haikal : Okay mum, we will arrive home before 7.
Mum : Also, don’t forget the carrots. I want carrots for the salad. In fact, get about
half a kilo of carrots.
Haikal : Right, carrots and peppers are on the list and Dad’s getting them right now.
Mum : No peppers, please. I still have them in the fridge.
Haikal : What about dessert?
Mum : Would you like fruit salad, yogurt or watermelon?
Haikal : Watermelon is a great idea! Oh, Mum, I love watermelon but I don’t know
how to choose a good one.
Mum : Ask your dad to show you. He knows how to choose a perfect watermelon.
Haikal : Sure!
Mum : Get some popcorn, too, so we can have popcorn and watch the movies on
TV after dinner.
Haikal : Okay, Mum. See you soon.

Conversation (Page 3)
Anita : Hi, Dr Azam! What’s your opinion on healthy lifestyle (1) ?
Doctor : Hi! In my opinion (2), a healthy lifestyle is living your life
healthily. You need to take care of your body, your heart and your
mind (3) . For example, eating healthy food and practicing a good
fitness routine (4) to have a well-balanced life.
Anita : Fitness routine? That sounds hard (5).
Doctor : Not at all. You can start by walking (6) 30 minutes a day as
a workout.
Anita : That easy?
Doctor : Yes. Walking (7) for 30 minutes will burn a hundred
calories. Find ways to walk more than you usually do. For example,
take the stairs (8) instead of the lift. You should not be
lazy (9) too. Too much sitting is not good. Do some
activities around you.
Anita : Wow! Thank you doctor for your advice (10).

Part 1
Natural disasters
Scientists understand a lot about the environment - but they don’t understand
everything! Every year, there are big and small disasters in different parts of the world.
Some of these happen very often, but some of them are a big shock. How do these
natural disasters affect humans? Can we do anything about them?
Hurricanes
What are they?
Tropical storms with strong winds. They start at sea, and can travel a long distance.
They have different names in different places: ‘hurricanes’ in the Atlantic Ocean,
‘typhoons’ in the Pacific Ocean, ‘tropical cyclones’ in the Indian Ocean and around
Australasia. Tornadoes, or whirlwinds, are similar, but begin over land.
Part 2
Floods
What are they?
The water in rivers, lakes or the ocean rises above its normal level and goes onto the
land.
Why do they happen?
If there is a lot of rain, or very strong winds, floods can happen.
