The researchers of the Pune University at the Department of Computer Engineering in India

(Gayatri Wani and Nilesh Alone, 2014) conducted a research entitled “A Survey on Impact

of Social Media on Election System.” It was found that Mr. Narendra Modi has defeated the

ruling party congress which were in power for 10 years. The study shows that Mr. Modi is

the most active and popular personality in twitter. For the first time in India, Social Media

played a huge role during elections. Twitter and other platform has been the key for the

success of Mr. Modi and his BJP party. The aim of the study is to fathom the impact of social

media in politics. It clearly shows that the rise of social media in India has been used as an

influential channel for opinion leading and public opinion formation. Social Media is the

biggest shift since the industrial revolution (Eric Qualman, Socialnomics.) The findings of

the study clearly shows that social media platforms are powerful tool that may influence

people to get involved in political life where elections and electoral campaign has a specific

role. Furthermore, the researchers of De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, Bachelor of

Science Major in Psychology (Rianne Anjela R. Sierra and Faye Alexandria P. Yanuaria,

2022) conducted a research entitled “Of choices and will: Influence of Media and Historical

Linkage as a Voting Reference in the Philippine Election 2022.” In this study, it is assumed

that Filipino voters and Filipino citizens or netizens are influenced by social media and the

history of the presidential candidate for the upcoming elections. Polls and interviews shows

that Filipino voters will vote for the candidate who has a better and clean background and

track record. Moreover, with the help of social media, Filipino voters are able to do
background checking towards the presidential candidates. The objective of this study is to

determine the factors that influence the voting reference of Filipino citizens for this coming

2022 election, thus, the researchers concluded that the voters’ preferred candidate were

influenced by their family background and history as well as the influence of different social

media platform, networking sites and everything that is written and posted online. The

previous researches focuses on examining Social Media as a medium for the voters, the

impact of people using Social Media during election campaign on the results of the poll and

how social media affects voters preference on candidates in the elections. In our present

study, the researchers wanted to explore Social Media platforms and other social networking

sites that plays an important role in the life of the youth and on the political views of the

newly registered voters. It is the objective of the researchers to find out how does these

platforms affects the views and opinion of the voters in politics.
