Scientism
If Ptolemy and Aristotle will be able to miraculously witness how the current world runs, they'll
be astonished by the fact that humans can now understand the set of phenomena that puzzled
them centuries ago. It's because human life is limited but the power of science is continuous; a
grand ball of knowledge that expands as time goes by.
The word "drastic" connotes a negative impression to everyone, but who wouldn't be thankful
for the fact that science and technology drastically changed our means of communication,
transportation, medication, and other things beyond ordinary human's imagination. To make
the importance of science extra stentorian, it also became as our primary lifeline today where
the stormy season caused by Covid 19 is still on its maximum flagellation.
We continue to execute tough defensive protocols and strategies against the leverage of
coronavirus, comprising quick and reliable diagnostic procedures, as well as set of tactics that
limit the spread of the contagion. However, to be effective, these must be integrated with
compatible offensive schemes against the virus, such as vaccine and medicine. Such schemes
became possible through a rigorous process conducted by scientists as they have also
combined scientific knowledge from previous infections with procedures infused by
modernization. But due to complications, time restraint, and unpredictable side effects, science
does not always proceed in an unambiguous straight line toward progress. Science is effective
and reliable however some manifestations are leading to the conclusion that we can't rely
solely upon the power of science.
But, this is strongly refuse by the supporters of scientism, they believe that if something can't
be proved through the scientific process then that specific variable is irrelevant. Many scientific
theories are so well-established that no new evidence is likely to alter them substantially. Those
who patronize and fall into the trap of scientism manifest that science is the only way to reality,
a sole instrument of knowing how the world works. The potency of science generates an
influential inducement for advocates of philosophical assumptions. These are people who
resort to cloaking their principles and beliefs in the legitimacy of the scientific enterprise. This
is where the power of science became ghastly.
Over the last decades, the practice of science unveiled reality and utterly reshaped civilization
in ways that have no precedent. However, science, by its definition is "pursuit and application
of knowledge", a practice and method for asking questions used to cultivate answers. It's only a
branch, and trees by their nature still have a set of other branches that generates fruit of
knowledge.
Great ability always comes with dangers and great responsibility. Some of the dangers that
encompass this thinking is that since science is so good at providing explanations,
explanations are all that matters. But humans have to understand that even our own
deoxyribonucleic acid is too complicated that it possibly points out into an explanation that
there is a Great Creator behind all the things that made humans wonder.
