DepEd M A N D A T E S
The Department of Education was established through the Education Decree of 1863
as the Superior Commission of Primary Instruction under a Chairman. The Education agency
underwent many reorganization efforts in the 20th century in order to better define its purpose
vis a vis the changing administrations and charters. The present day Department of Education
was eventually mandated through Republic Act 9155, otherwise known as the Governance of
Basic Education act of 2001 which establishes the mandate of this agency.
The Department of Education (DepEd) formulates, implements, and coordinates
policies, plans, programs and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal basic education. It
supervises all elementary and secondary education institutions, including alternative learning
systems, both public and private; and provides for the establishment and maintenance of a
complete, adequate, and integrated system of basic education relevant to the goals of national
development.

ACCESS 11
With the pandemic caused by “Corona Virus Disease 2019” (CoVid-19) the Philippine
education system has been challenged once again. The Department of Education (DepEd),
with its K-12 Basic Education Curriculum, has to take the challenge to cater the needs of all
learners to get through the New Normal ways of learning.
Indeed, the year 2020 has given this country quite a challenge to survive particularly
with the health restrictions. It can be recalled that on March 9, 2020, President Rodrigo
Duterte declared that the country would be under a State of Public Health Emergency
through Proclamation. Furtherm0re, this followed by Proclamation 929 on March 16, 2020
Declaring a State of Calamity Throughout the Philippines Due to Corona Virus Disease
2019 (COVID-19), which put the entire Luzon into Community Quarantine, and later on, the
whole country. Amid the health hazards, the Deped still pursued to open up enrolment for SY
2020- 2021, putting an end to the nation’s anticipation whether there would be an academic
freeze or not.
In these trying times the DepEd uses different learning modalities. Some schools adapt
E- Learning modalities, others use Radio-Based Instruction, and Printed Self-Learning
Materials or Self-Learning Modules to ensure learning continuity for all schools under
DepEd in urban and rural areas
In the journey for a constant change, all elementary and secondary administrator,
teachers, non-teaching staff, students, community and stakeholders have reached a
remarkable milestones and accomplishments within the school calendar year 2020.
Through our set goals and programs from our School Learning Continuity Plan S.Y.
2020-2021 in providing quality and relevant education to the varying needs of our students in
this pandemic through partnerships with parents, community and stakeholders towards the
achievements of our school as a whole were met.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the DepEd family. To officials in the Central
Office, Regional Office ,Schools Division Office of Palawan, and most especially to our own
Narra Del Sur District Office headed by Dr.
Mario T. Solatorio, Public Schools District
Supervisor and to all All Teachers and Parents of
Burirao Proper Elementary School .
