Objectives

o Ensure LNG transfer with minimum BOG generation

o Meet LNG offloading requirements vs. safety, flowrate, availability…
o Combine high flexibility, reliability and long service life

15
…derived from existing reliable technologies

 Combination of unrivalled in-house expertise in both

composite and rubber-bonded hoses

 Composite hose – A dedicated technology for

cryogenic application
– High flexibility due to hose construction
– Ability to withstand cryogenic temperature
– Proven suitability for ship-to-ship LNG transfer

 Trelleborg bonded hose – A field-proven solution for

transfer systems
– A reliable technology based on API 17K certification

Inner hose
d Derived from composite
EN 1474-2 standard hose

Continuous sleeve
100% tight barrier

Benefits

Combination of proven technologies!

5 March 2017
Inner hose derived from composite hose
o Multiple layers of films and fabrics are trapped between two stainless steel wire helices
o Its convoluted shape results in a high flexibility even at cryogenic temperature
A continuous sleeve forms a tight barrier Film layers Outer wire
The sleeve prevents the liquid from penetrating the hose.
(This can collapse the hose when liquid changes to vapor.) Sleeve

o The sleeve is made of UHMWPE: Fabric layers

 Remains flexible at cryogenic temperature
 Highly resistant to bending fatigue at -163°C Fabric inner liner
Inner wire

20
Cryogenic flexible hose-in-hose design

Qualified according to
Annular insulation
EN 1474-2 standard o Innovative material
o Orthotropic properties
o Fatigue resistant
o Reduces BOG generation
o Ensures the hose buoyancy

Benefits

Combination of proven technologies!

7 March 2017
Annulus insulation material
The annulus is filled with layers of 3D knitted fabric, combining:
o An orthotropic behavior
 Flexible even at cryogenic temperature
 High compressive stiffness
o A low density (< 200 kg/m3)
o A low thermal conductivity (0.07 W/m.K at 20°C, 0.03 m.K at -160°C)
o An open structure, making easier the annular volume blanketing
o A high resistance to compressive and bending fatigue

3D spacer fabric is wrapped in a double helix

A film covers each layer of fabric to stop natural convection

Roll of 3D spacer fabric

22
Cryogenic flexible hose-in-hose design

Qualified according to Monitoring system

EN 1474-2 standard o Optical fibers installed in the annulus
o DTS or Bragg Grating thermal sensing
o Leak detection & Cool down follow-up

Benefits

Combination of proven technologies!

8 March 2017
Leak monitoring system
o Monitoring uses optical fibers, helically wound in the insulation annulus
o Fibers works as thermal sensors, seeking abnormal temperature change, caused by a leak
o 2 fibers are installed in separate tubing, as a redundancy

Two technologies can be used indifferently

Distributed Thermal Sensing (DTS) Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)

o DTS is based on Raman diffusion o A periodic variation of refractive index in the fiber
o A nanosecond laser pulse is emitted through core reflects a specific wavelength
the fiber o The reflected wavelength depends on temperature
o A fraction of the pulse energy is diffused o One fiber can be fitted with 100 FBGs
o The diffusion intensity depends on
temperature
