2.0 Executive Summary

Bobstats Consulting Company is a Statistical Consulting Company that offers lasting

solutions in Statistics, Finance, Strategic Planning and ICT to businesses seeking to
optimize their organizational performance in Kenya.

I had the initial call to form a Statistical Company in 1995 when I graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree with specializations in Mathematics and Statistics should I
have failed to get a white collar job. Fortunately I immediately found a Statistical job with
Coca Cola Nairobi Bottlers Ltd. for two years which was followed by a more gainful
employment by NIC Group which has NIC Bank Ltd. as its subsidiary and a top tier bank
here in Kenya. Additional financial experience in the banking sector continued to drive my
desire to form a consultancy which would encompass both statistical and financial
consulting services in the future. As is the norm, I could not form a company whilst under
bank employment because this is prohibited as it poses serious conflicts of interest with
the employer.

I was made redundant by the bank in the year 2008 and efforts to find another white collar
job proved futile in the following three years. I suffered a substantial amount of my savings in
pursuit of obtaining another gainful job in vain. In the year 2011 I had a special contract with
a Real Estate Consulting Company registered in Gibraltar in Europe which forced me to
form my Statistical Consulting Company as the assignment needed to be done by a
registered company. The consulting assignments undertaken to date have been scanty and
sporadic but spanning many professional fields in Statistics, Strategic Planning, e
Commerce, Finance and ICT.

Of special request lately is the request to involve the consultancy with healthcare charities
which also claim that they are unable to pay full commercial consulting rates for our services.
Their services are definitely of prime value to the community and I feel the need to support
them. A particular case is Lily Pads charity in the UK which sought our help in December
2018 towards the construction of a Sanitary Pads company in Western Kenya. The work
involved is both of Strategic Planning nature and Medical Statistics, which is a special
area of application of Statistics to health care and is of great value to community health.

Another area of interest to the consultancy is in Environmental research where the

consultancy wishes to assist in providing Environmental Statistics in programs that assist
in safeguarding our environment. Being non commercial, special funding is needed to
actualize this area yet Environmental protection is of benefit to all communities.

Lastly the consultancy wishes to support young professionals in universities to obtain

Industrial Attachment thereby assisting them obtain hands on experience in their chosen
areas of degree specializations. This work will be of prime value to the Educational Sector.

The consultancy receives many loan offers for its development activities mainly from the
USA but considering that the revenues are still very low and consulting assignments very
sporadic, I feel that it is imprudent to take a bank loan for fears of loan default. This has
prompted me to seek funding in a different way and I hope that you will consider assisting us
after reading the entire proposal. The total amount sought here US$ 7,000.

2.1 Purpose of the Business Plan

This document serves a couple of strategic roles of which the important ones are:

1. It puts into writing the marketing strategies and details the operational processes to
be undertaken by the infant Statistical and Finance Consultancy.
2. It informs relevant Stakeholders of the need to support this worthwhile professional
undertaking.
3. It puts into writing the strategic development plans of the infant consultancy for the
next four years.
4. It will be the official document prepared to solicit for funding to grow and develop
statistical and financial services offered by the already registered infant consultancy.

2.11 Market Needs to be Met

The Consultancy’s work covers three broad areas that are the life blood of all commercial
and non commercial organizations. These are related to Statistical Consulting, Financial
Consulting and ICT.

We desire that we meet these needs as we serve our esteemed customers:

 Assist our clients in their effort to obtain funding by preparing Business Plans for
them.
 Assist foreign direct investors in obtaining financial data and calculations focused at
attracting FDI in Kenya or other countries.
 Assist in linking businesses to suitable funding sources once the consultancy’s
network in the financial sector grows in the future.

2.31 Competitive Advantages

Bobstats Consulting will offer twenty years experience gained from my work at Coca Cola
and Banking Industries.

Specifically, the client will benefit by engaging me in these ways:

1. Efficient use of ICT, which will pin from my knowledge of Banking Sytems;Mbanker
(by Fintech), Equinox (By Nigeria) and other Banking Software such as Cheque point
for The Banks Central Clearing System.
2. My collaboration with IBM inc. will assist the clients in leveraging the power of ICT in
their organizations from the super ICT giant.
3. Experience in handling Business Statistical work, gained mainly from my Experience
at Coca Cola in Nairobi.
4. My qualifications in Finance will give confidence to the client and my polished
communication skills
5. My competitively priced services, availability and low overhead costs will be an
attraction to SMES.

2.32 Competitive Weaknesses

As an infant consultancy, am faced with very many difficulties.

Reliance on a single person is a drawback. Only so many hours are available to perform
chargeable services, prospect for new clients, manage the business and maintain or learn
new skills. There is however the chance of considerable flexibility in choosing which services
to offer and which skills to obtain.

Some engagements will require specific skills that are not possessed and cannot be learned
quickly. Through my contacts in the consulting world some of these functions may have to
be sub-contracted or referred to other parties.

During a typical engagement some functions are more labour intensive, such as
Sourcing for Data for analysis, Data Cleaning and Installation of Software and Hardware. In
order to maximize on chargeable time and profit, these functions may have to be sub-
contracted to third parties with whom Bobstats Consulting has dealt with in the past.

Sometimes, lack of formal offices and a professional image poses problems. However, this
will only be a temporary problem because my long term plans in Real Estate Development is
to own a large Office Space of which my consultancy will have offices. Efforts in seeking
investors interested in my bigger proposals are ongoing and I regularly meet interested
investors. This has called for deeper negotiations and I hope that I will find an investor who
will actually invest in Office Space Real Estate in Kenya. Meanwhile Bobstats Consulting will
continue to work in the Home Office.

Part of the budget in this proposal includes a modern computerized voice mailbox system
which will also answer calls automatically and also receive faxes. Many of the other
deficiencies associated with start-ups will be dealt with as we move along.

3.0 Market Analysis

3.11 Target Market Characteristics

Our target client is the Small or Medium Enterprise with about 20 – 50 people in Kenya.
Specific Non Governmental Organizations also need our services. These generally have a
turnover of KES 5m – KES 10m per year (US$45,000 – US$100,000). They are Sole
Proprietorships, Partnerships or Ltd liability Companies. Periodically I get inquiries from
persons outside Kenya.

It also worth noting that by experience, most of these organizations want a “one off”
solution to their problems and they do not need the relevant skills on an ongoing basis so
hiring or training staff from their end is not usually justifiable and hence seek a solution to
their problem’s solution from consultants, and this is best done on consultancy terms. The
solution offered by consultants is expected to meet the client’s needs, work when it is
supposed to and is cost effective and easily operational.

3.12 Target Market Size

SMES in Kenya make a significant contribution to GDP in Kenya. These constitute our target
market plus NGOS which number about 6,500 in East Africa.

3.13 Marketing and Sales Activities

3.14 Marketing Strategy

The Consultancy intends to employ vast methods of marketing professional services of

which the following will be key:

 Participation in Seminars and Trade Shows

 Physical Directory Listing
 Obtaining referrals from former or existing clients
 Participation in Electronic forums touching on our services.
 Conversions from Web channels – the website
 Email and Telephone Marketing
 Physical visits

Business Plan for
Bobstats Consulting
 Online writing
 Advertisements in newspapers and trade journals
 Listing in Professional Statistical, Financial and ICT Journals
 Networking with Computer Vendors, Software and Computer Vendors, Finance
professionals and previous clients

3.15 Effectiveness of these methods

Deploying the above methods generated the results on the chart below to a leading
statistical consultancy in the UK over a five year period where about 40% of the
prospects were converted into contracts.

We hope that focus on the top five methods will bear good results.

3.16 Sales Strategy

An initial meeting with prospective clients will be performed at no charge. This meeting will
confirm the existence of needs for change. The prospective client must come away from the
meeting with some trust or confidence in the consultant and his ability to implement a
solution to the client’s needs.

A proposal outlining the role Bobstats Consulting will play on the chargeable service
identified will follow with the time lines and expected fees to be charged. A formal contract
will then be signed before commencement of any consulting assignment.

Business Plan for
Bobstats Consulting
4.0 Operations

Bobstats Consulting will continue to operate from a home office for the next two years.
Necessary equipment, including a phone, answering machine, fax capability, file storage and
computer equipment will be kept in that office.

Most of the actual consulting services and meetings with clients will be performed at the
client’s place of business. Some configuration of equipment and software and the writing of
proposals and documentation will be performed in the home office.

All significant engagements will be initiated with an informal meeting where the prospective
client’s needs are discussed and confirmed to exist. This first meeting will be followed by a
written proposal and a contractual engagement letter to be signed by the client before further
work is performed.

Records of existing systems and procedures, alternatives and recommendations, hardware

and software purchases and configurations will be kept. Records of the billable time spent on
each engagement will also be kept. Meetings with the client staff will be held at important
points during each engagement to ensure that everyone involved is aware of the progress
and the work that remains to be done. In most engagements, it is expected that client staff
will perform some of the configuration work.

4.1 Management and Ownership

Bobstats Consulting is organized as a sole proprietorship with Robert George as its owner,
manager and the Managing consultant.

5.0 Financial Plan

The initial financial capital requirement ranges from US$5,000 to US$10,000. This business
plan seeks US$7,000 only. The balance will be sought from internal sources here in Kenya
or generated from prospective consulting assignments because there is no point in taking a
huge obligation yet there are no specific high level consulting assignments pending.

The Amplified long term consulting business plan carries US$32,000. It also heavily looks at
running a University Student internship programme to assist university students in gaining
practical experience before completing their undergraduate degrees. This follows a request
to assist in this internship from the undergraduate students themselves in the past.

Considering the weight of such an undertaking, these aspirations are deferred into the future
when we acquire a property and have spacious consulting offices hopefully in the second
and third floors of some envisioned property. These dreams look remote into the future but
with single steps into this vision we shall have these dreams realized some day.

The future of the ancillary businesses is in Real Estate, Oil and Gas.

5.2 Loan Amortization

The consultancy seeks Debt Finance amounting to US$7,000. By experience, consulting

assignments come in very sporadic patterns in the past. A main assignment is occasionally
followed by a long period of drought, before another one sets in. Due to this irregular pattern
in generating revenue, we wish to take an interest only loan with a four to five years term
whereby we pay interest semi-annually and the principal at the end of the term.

We have therefore planned for a loan amortized as follows:

Amount Borrowed $7,000.00

Interest p.a 2.00%
Annual interest $140.00
Semiannual interest $70.00
US$ KES exchange rate 108.20
Expected proceeds in LCY KES 757,400

a company registered in Florida in the USA and one that wishes to form a subsidiary
here in Kenya. This collaboration is however “individual specific” but which will

but has not been concluded as yet.

The website for Global Go is www.globalgo.com
