What’s New
1. What is the message in this cartoon?
-The message of this cartoon to us is that, media have a hard time in many
terms because of political pressure. Nowadays, media is the key to know
people’s wants, needs, thinking’s and many more. But how could media pass
all of this to our government or to people who are responsible to solve this if
threat and intimidation hindrances this process to truth? Having these threats
and intimidation affects the media by applying more pressure and great
expectations to it.
2. Is the situation about media depicted in the cartoon true in the Philippines? Why
or why not?
- This situation about media depicted in the cartoon is in the Philippines
because media was forced to cover up the wrong beings of the government.
There are many cases that the media has a strong evidence but keeps on hiding
it like they have no eyes and because of the intimidation and pressures coming
from the government, they were forced to hide the truth.

3. Does the cartoon show a challenge or an opportunity for media and information?
Why?
- It is a challenge because media serves an important role in a democratic
country. Their primary purpose is to inform the public, providing citizens with
the information needed to make thoughtful decisions about leadership and
policy. The media act as watchdog checking government actions. Media can
perform many tasks and can help many people by providing various
information, but the main problem is that the government uses media to cover
up their mistakes and pays them to create another story that will not affect
their status.

What’s More

1. Describe how new technologies led to affect change

-New technologies can bring big changes in terms of communication of people to
each other. Communication is become faster and easier because of newly invented
platforms, social media applications and hardware devices. Especially, now that
world is experiencing pandemic, the use of different technologies and software
helped us to communicate with other people in our work, study and personal space.
This pandemic give people a good scare for their health. For people and students
like me, schools are not permitting their students to attend face-to-face classes,
instead, everyone is advised to facilitate classes via online tools like video
conferencing software, cloud-based drives etc. These changes the way we see
communication before. And this concludes that technology can be a useful tool as a
medium of communication.
2. As a student, what do you consider is the biggest challenge and ,on the other
hand, the best opportunity offered to you by the new media?
-The biggest challenge that the new media brought me is the way of our new normal
education. In our new normal setting, it is more on the technology now when it
comes to education. And before I get used to it, I have a hard time understanding,
learning, and using those tools that we need to use for our online classes.
Sometimes there are many technical errors that I have to deal with. However, even
this brought a challenge to me, and I also consider it the best opportunity since
because of the new normal set up I learned so many things, and I have a chance to
explore those things that I didn't learn before, now I can use it in my daily life.

3. How media affect change in society nowadays?

-The media influences so many people’s behaviour nowadays. Information can be
spread after a few clicks of a button, whether it is true, false, speculation or gossip.
This can affect relationships in various ways, be it between celebrities and ordinary
people or between celebrities themselves and their loved ones. The media can
manipulate, influence, persuade and pressurise society, along with even controlling
the world at times in both positive and negative ways; mentally, physically and
emotionally.

It can help develop a tourist spots popularity. However, the internet can also pose
issues or problems to local tourism. Some examples of these problems are

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

The Power of Media and Information, and the Responsibility of the Users.

The media is one of the most effective means of distributing knowledge to people or
society. The media has an impact on our daily life. It informs, entertains, and persuades us.
They have the power to both inform and influence our lives.

Television and internet advertisements have the ability to affect viewers. Violence,
nudity, and other stuff that is inappropriate for minors or anyone under the age of 18 can be
found in some of the videos. They may believe the material in that particular advertisement is
accurate if they are not given enough parental guidance. Because there is no oversight over
content on the internet, some people have taken advantage of this to spread false information
around the internet. As a result, some users have been duped, bullied, or exploited in some way.
Biases can also be found in the media. They have the power to persuade viewers to believe what
they are saying. However, all of the aforementioned drawbacks can be tolerated. Parents must
keep an eye on what their children are watching on television. They must make certain that it is
acceptable for the age group. Users of the internet must verify the information's veracity. To
avoid fallacy, they must investigate the source. Never post anything too personal, such as your
bank account number or address, or anything else that could place you in danger. Always keep
one's privacy in mind. If there are political opinions involved, check for the sources when
discovering biases in the media. Check to see if the headline and the actual article are the same.
It can contain double standards at times. Look at who wrote the article and find out who wrote it
from a different perspective. Because biased information seeks to persuade you to change your
perspective, we must be skeptical of everything we hear.

The media is our primary source of information. If we do not have access to the media,
we will never be informed about what is happening in our environment on a daily basis. The
media can be used to raise awareness, but it can also be used to propagate bias. We must follow
certain norms and maintain a certain level of decorum when using the media. Information is
immensely powerful, but it must not be utilized for malicious purposes. We need to learn to be
responsible users. The media has two sides: one that is favorable and the other that is bad. It has
the potential to aid us, but it also has the potential to harm us. But it is all up to us. We are only
allowing them to play with our lives if we continue to enable them to do such nefarious things.
Everything, however, is in our hands. We are only allowing them to play with our life if we
continue to enable them to do bad things. If we become more cautious, we can truly avert or
stop those problems. Responsibility is a huge word. It is, however, an unavoidable fact.
Everyone in society has a role to play and a responsibility to fulfill.
