General
The work description applies to two hub
reduction gears, RH835 and RH735. The
difference between the hub reduction gears is
that RH835 has five planet wheels and RH735
has three planet wheels.
Cleanliness
Cleanliness is extremely important when
working with hubs and hub reduction gears.
Contamination reduces their service life
considerably. Always clean the outside of the
hub before it is dismantled. Before
reassembling the hub, all parts, old as well as
new, should be cleaned.

Oil
Introduction
The oil circulates between the hub reduction
gears RH735/835 and the central gear
RBP/RP735/835. The oil level in the hub
reduction gears may therefore vary depending
on how the vehicle has been driven before it was
brought into the workshop. Refer to function
description for hub reduction gears in the
Workshop Manual, main group 9.

Assembly
Introduction
The bearings in the hub should be preloaded.
The principle of the procedure is to first
assemble the hub with too many shims, then
measure and disassemble the hub to adjust the
number of shims.
The Assembly section is therefore divided up as
follows:
• Assembly, up to measuring the bearing
preload.
• Measuring and adjusting bearing pre-load.
• Assembly, after measuring and adjusting
bearing pre-load.
IMPORTANT! The pulse wheel with seal should not be fitted when
measuring the bearing play. This may damage the seal.
