JOB DESCRIPTION

SENIOR TEACHER- NURSERY

SCHOOL: Rye Park Nursery School, Walton Road, Hoddesdon.

POST HELD: Senior Teacher

SALARY SCALE: Standard Scale- UPS depending on experience plus TLR 2,


plus outer fringe allowance.

TO WHOM
RESPONSIBLE: Headteacher

General Duties:

To be responsible for the education and welfare of 40 children in the Green Room ;
key worker for up to 20 children and shared responsibility for 60 children per session
in accordance with the requirements of Conditions of Employment of School
Teachers. Always having due regard to the requirements of the Foundation Stage
Curriculum, the school's aims, objectives and schemes of work, and any policies of
the Governing Body.

To share in the corporate responsibility for the well being and discipline of all pupils
and to carry out the professional duties of a teacher under the reasonable direction of
the Headteacher of the school.

Specific Responsibilities:

In the absence from school of the Headteacher to assume responsibility for the
discharge of the functions of the Headteacher.

To assist and liaise closely with the Headteacher and SLT in managing the school.

To take an active lead in curriculum planning, classroom organisation and staff


motivation.

Professional Duties

The following duties shall be deemed to be included in the professional duties which
a school teacher is required to perform.

1) Teaching

a) Planning and preparing lessons.


a) Teaching, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to you.
b) Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment
of pupils.
In each case having regard to the curriculum of the school.

2) Other Activities
a) Promoting the general progress and well being of individual pupils.
b) Making records of reports on the personal and social needs of pupils within the
yellow room.
c) Communicating and consulting with the parents of these pupils.
c) Communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the school.
d) Participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.

3) Assessments and Reports

Providing and contributing to oral and written assessments and reports relating to
individual pupils.

4) Appraisal

Participating in arrangements made in accordance with regulations made under


Section 49 of the Education Act 1986 for the appraisal of your performance.

5) Review:

Further Training and Development:


a) Reviewing, from time to time, methods of teaching and programmes of work.
b) Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development
as a teacher.

6) Educational Methods

Advising and co-operating with the headteacher, other Teacher(s), Nursery Nurses
and other staff and professionals in the preparation and development of courses of
study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and
assessment and pastoral arrangements.

7) Discipline, Health and Safety

Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils i.e. safeguarding their health
and safety when they are on the school premises and when engaged in authorised
school activities elsewhere.

8) Staff Meetings

Participating in meetings at the school which relates to the curriculum for the school
or the administration or organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements.

9) Management

a) To take a lead in classroom organisation. Encouraging all staff to be actively


involved in the children's educational opportunities.
b) Taking such part as may be required of you in the review development and
management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral
functions of the school.

10) Administration

e) Participating in administrative and organisational tasks related to such duties as


are described above, including the management or supervision of persons
providing support for teachers in the school, or acting as mentor to students,
and the ordering and allocation of equipment and materials.
b) Registering the attendance of pupils and supervising pupils.

This job description supplements that provided by the Teacher's Pay and Conditions

Working Time:

a) A teacher employed shall be available to work for 195 days of any year of which
190 shall be teaching pupils; and those 195 are specified by H.C.C. or the
Headteacher.
b) Such a teacher shall be required to work for 1265 hours in any year (pro rata)
those hours to be allocated reasonably throughout those days in the year on
which you are required to be available to work.
c) Time spent travelling to or from the place of work shall not count against the
1265 hours referred to in (b).
d) Such a teacher shall not be required under contract to undertake mid-day
supervision and shall be allowed a break of reasonable length between school
sessions.
e) Such a teacher shall, in addition to the requirements set out in (a) and (b) above,
work such additional hours as may be needed to enable her to discharge
effectively her professional duties including, in particular, the writing of reports of
children's work, the preparation of lessons, teaching material and teaching
programmes. The amount of time required for this purpose beyond the 1265
hours shall not be defined by the employer but shall depend upon the work
needed to discharge the teacher's duties.
f) A year means a period of 12 months commencing on 1st September.

This job description may be reviewed at the end of the academic year, or earlier if
necessary. In addition it may be amended at any time after consultation with you.

The teacher should sign 2 copies of this job description retaining one and the
Headteacher retaining the other.
