QUESTION 1 (20 MARKS)

A medical doctor is comparing the optical density with respect to lot (treatment) and run (block).
An alpha criterion of 0.05 were used for the test.

Dataset: Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay/enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) anti-human

immunodeficiency virus (HIV) Optical Density Readings
Source: Hoaglin, D., Mosteller, F., and Tukey, J. (1991).
Fundamentals of Exploratory Analysis of Variance.
Wiley, New York, page 157.
Response Variable: Elisa Optical density
Number of observations: 75
Number of variables per line image: 3
Order of variables per line image:
i. Response variable = optical density from ELISA
ii. Treatment = lot (5 levels)
iii. Block = run (5 levels)

In this study, the medical doctor would like to perform an analysis to determine whether the difference means exist among each of
treatments.

a) Write hypothesis statement in this study. (1 mark)

 : = = = =
: At least one mean is different from the others.

b) Complete the suitable ANOVA table using the traditional method for data in TABLE 1.

QUESTION 2 (11 MARKS)

A survey by TnT company asked its customers preference on the types of telco plan. The
results were 35% of them like plan A, 52% like plan B, and 13% had no opinion.

A random sample of 120 adults was asked the same question at a local county fair. The results
were 40 people prefer plan A, 60 prefer plan B, and 20 had no opinion.

At α = 0.01 level of significance, is there sufficient evidence to conclude that the results differ
from those reported in the survey? (Use traditional method and p-value method).

Answer:
: The sample results are same as reported in survey.
: The sample results are differ as reported in survey.

There is enough evidence to conclude that the sample results are same as reported in
survey at 1% significant level.

QUESTIONS 3 (19 MARKS)

A survey has conducted among IP College students about monthly junk food expenses. There are
50 random samples for variables: course group, junk food types and monthly bills. Raw data
shown in TABLE 2. Let α = 0.05.

Analyze the data in TABLE 2 using p-value method based on the following questions:

a) Is there any difference means of monthly bills among the junk food types?

Yes, there is difference means of monthly bills among the junk food types. Because
suppose take 7 food type foe example fast food.

From the data there are 11 fast food = 11 x 2 = 22

Mean of the fast food types= 22/11 =2

Mean of 11 fast food monthly bills

= 100+100+30+40+98+30+50+50+30+50+42/11
=56.36

Yes, there is difference means of monthly among the junk food types.

(5 marks)

b) Is there enough evidence to reject the claim that there is no preference in the selection of
junk food types?

Yes, there is enough evidence to reject the claim that there is no p reference in
selection of junked type because p reference based on monthly bills or their price of
the item.
(5 marks)
c) Can we conclude that junk food types related to course group?

No, we cant conclude the junked types related to course group.

(5 marks)
d) Is there any violation of assumption in 3(b) and 3(c)? Explain.

Yes, the course group are different for some junk food types.
