Bharata Muni enunciated the eight Rasas and each rasa, according to

Nātyasāstra, has a presiding deity and a specific colour. Every dramatic


presentation was aimed at evoking in the minds of the audience a particular kind
of aesthetic experience, which is described as ‘Rasa’.

The ninth rasa was added by later authors and later the expression
Navarasa (the nine rasas) came into existence.
