WORK METHODOLOGY
Construction is the mobilization and utilization of capital of the project and assign
specialized personnel, supply and apply approved material and good conditioned and efficient
equipments to assemble material and equipments on specific site in accordance with drawings,
specifications and contract documents prepared to serve the propose of the client.
All construction projects have an element of risk. The risk encompasses the element of
Time, Money and Quality. As an over view, the degree of risk is directly associated with the
money spent and the time devoted too and the quality of the management of the project. To
fulfill the interest of the client MONET ROAD CONSTRUCTION (PLC) give great
consideration for the next three terms of construction Time, Cost and Quality.
1. TIME MANAGEMENT
All the construction works consisted in the construction process are performed in a specific time
schedule, which is following under the sequence of each works, in order to decrease conditions
which, affect the overall time of the construction. Inaddition, works also can be executed parallel
without affecting adjoining performance.
Sequence: - the vitality of classification of a specific job in the order of its natural
precedence is most important. Especially the significance of identifying and breaking into
smaller parts is high in maintenance works, because it has to be done in such a way that,
without affecting those parts not subjected for maintenance.

Project plan clearly defines project scope of work. It breaks down project objectives into clear,
identifiable, quantifiable, attainable and verifiable goals which are assigned to individuals and
responsibilities center for accomplishment.
19
2. COST
Construction equipment’s required for the execution of a certain construction project are
either owned or rented fromequipment leasing companies.
In the process of construction cost estimation, the contractor will normally assume the
intended construction activities will be performed using his own equipment’s or rented
equipment’s from others, if equipment’s are required for the execution of these activities. When
we say cost of the project, comprises two elements, Direct and indirect costs.
This consists cost of material, labor and equipment to execute specific work item.
We assess the availability of local material and their prices, transportation cost to move
materials.
Consider different types of leaves and allowances, benefits, travel subsides and cost of overtime
related to targeted output.
We also consider equipments cost by analyzing hourly rental cost and considering the output of
the equipment to get the total cost of equipment assigned for the specific work item.
Therefore, our Direct cost will be the sum of Material, Labor and equipment cost.
As every project construction has its own profit margin, we have a profit margin set to
this specific project and overhead cost.
Our overall cost will be the sum of direct and indirect costs.
3. QUALITY AND SAFETY
Quality control and safety represent increasingly important concerns for project managers.
Defects or failures in constructed facilities can result in very large costs. Even with minor
20
defects, re-construction may be required and facility operations impaired. Increased costs and
delays are the result.
The safety culture of an organization is the product of individual and group values, attitudes,
perceptions, competencies and patterns of behavior that determine the commitment to, and the
style and proficiency of, an organization’s health and safety management
A variety of different organizations are possible for quality and safety control during
construction. One common model is to have a group responsible for quality assurance and
another group primarily responsible for safety within an organization. In large organizations,
departments dedicated to quality assurance and to safety might assign specific individuals to
assume responsibility for these functions on particular projects. For smaller projects, the project
manager or an assistant might assume these and other responsibilities. In either case, insuring
safe and quality construction is a concern of the project manager in overall charge of the project
in addition to the concerns of personnel, cost, time and other management issues.
21
creating budget for safety related expenditure
Therefore, our construction firm needs to consider these factors in order to ensure effective and
very good quality work.
Method of construction
To accomplish this, the following construction procedures are established to be the general
guidelines in the implementation of the project.
Construction procedures
Before construction can commence, a site survey will be performed to stake out the existing
structures, exact property lot boundary and grid lines of the project site, existing roads, electrical
cables, water lines with its service connections and access entryways from public roads, etc.
Once the surveys are complete and if there is a discrepancy result between the original plan and
actual site conditions, all disputes and re-design (if recommendable) will be resolved by the
consultant simultaneously with the massive excavation works by other contractor at cost by the
owner. Upon resolution of all disputes, the Excavator will continue and follow the desired trench
excavation according to the elevation’s set forth by the Owner/Architect required on proposed
Foundation plan.
Technical procedures
A. SURVEYING
Fix station points, PI, at 100-200m intervals from reference of the centerline of the Drainage.
Where there is a horizontal or vertical curve the interval of the PIs will be less than 100m.
B. DESIGN REVIEW
Design review and confirmation of the documents including drawings and specifications.
22
C. EXCAVATION AND EARTH WORK
Remove trees, tree roots, bushes, big stones, grass and other obstacles with 4 m width of the
drainage to allow adequate working space for movement of materials and workers. these
removed materials will be deposited to the directed place by Forman.
Excavate the top soil 15-20cm top soil to remove the soil with grass and organic layer of the soil
which is weak, compressible and not required for construction then deposited to the directed
place by the Forman.
Excavate the layer of the soil next to the top 15-20 cm, until the specified depth is attained.
Supply, spread and compact 15-20cm, or more of sub-base granular material or gravel sub –base
as directed by the Forman, to fill the outer side of the Masson drainage.
Cart away
Cart away surplus excavated materials, which is not needed for backfilling.
The hand tools used in activities under earthwork category, but not limited to, are pickaxe, hoe,
shovel, wheelbarrow, mattock, crowbar, axe, hand rammer, animal drawn carts, tractor-trailer
combinations, etc.
D. CONCRETE WORKS
1. Mixing: All structural concrete shall be mixed and delivered to site by transit mixers.
Each batch delivered at jobsite shall be accompanied by a time slip issued at the
batching plant, bearing the time of departure. Discharge of concrete shall be
completed within an hour after the introduction of water to the mix.
23
2. Testing: samples for different sizes of rebar shall be taken for every delivery. This
shall be submitted for testing to verify their conformity to specifications. Subsequent
random testing shall be conducted throughout the construction period.
E. FORMWORKS
Application: Varied types of forms will be utilized to different structures whichever fit
the requirement. These are metal panels and metal decking forms. For culvert wood and
metal forms will be used.
F. MASONRY WORKS
1. Laying: Concrete masonry units shall be laid following the progress of trench
excavation. Adjust each unit to its final position while mortar is still soft. If any unit
is disturbed after mortar has stiffened relay and replace in new mortar.
2. Testing: Samples shall be taken per delivery. These will be tested for compression to
verify their conformity to specifications. No unit shall be allowed for installation until
satisfactory test results are presented.
24
