You were absent from an important event held by the company you work for.
Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:
• Apologize for your absence and explain the reasoning
• Explain why you had to be at the other event
• Explain what you will do to catch up

Dear Mr. Brannagan

I am writing to apologize for missing the important event that was held yesterday in the auditorium due to an
exigency. I was in the office when suddenly I was informed about my aunt's health condition. Due to this, I had
to rush to the hospital to visit her.
Let me explain in more detail. My aunt has been hospitalized and needs immediate treatment. As I am the only
close relative on my aunt in this city, I had to be there for her admission and paperwork. Due to her unstable
medical condition from last two years, she has been kept in I.C.U for critical observation for next few days.
I spoke with Anne, late afternoon, yesterday about the event. And she would be more than happy to provide me
the gist of the event. Additionally, I would submit my insights on the event by latest this weekend.
I hope you would excuse me for being absent.
Yours sincerely,
Maheem Bhatia

You have been living in a rental apartment for the past year. Recently, a new neighbour Mr.Jackson moved in
who has loud parties several times a week. You have spoken to Mr.Jackson but are not very close friends
Write a letter to Mr.Jackson. In your letter:
• Explain the situation
• Describe why it bothers you
• Suggest a solution

Dear Mr. Brannagan

I am writing this letter to apprise you about the challenge I face due to your frequent celebrations which involve
music on loud speakers.
I have observed various times that you organize parties at your place and play songs at high volume till late
night. Moreover, many guests come in your apartment and make huge noise while ravishing the party.
I moved to this building with an intention to prepare for a competitive exam. However, I am unable to study for
last two months because of your events as you play loud music throughout the night, which hinders my sleep.
Consequently, I fail to be productive while I study because of incomplete sleep, which is a serious concern for
me as the test is approaching soon.
Therefore, I request you to understand my circumstances and try to cooperate with me. I request you to
organize parties only on weekends since I visit my parents on those days. Furthermore, you can continue your
gatherings once my test is over which is in the next month.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Chirag Bhardwaj
You need to take some time off of work to go on holiday.Write a letter to your direct manager.
In your letter:

 Ask for time off and explain why

 Provide the dates and times for which you will be unavailable to work
 Describe what you will do to prepare or make up for your absence

Write at least 150 words.

Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Ms. Snyder,

Dear Ms. Snyder,

I am writing to request time off for an annual holiday trip with my family.

Each year, my extended family members plan a family reunion in Sacramento, California. Since we

all live so far away, these reunions have always been great opportunities for us to see each other and
reconnect. It is for this reason that I would need to use some of my holiday time in August.

Since the reunion falls on Sunday, August 25th, I would be available to work up until Friday, August
24th. Thus, I am formally requesting time off from Monday, August 26th until Friday, August 30th. I
would be available to return to work on Monday, September 2nd.

I fully realize that August is our busiest period, and taking holiday during this time could potentially
increase the workload of my colleagues. As such, I would be more than happy to take
on any overtime in early August or during the month of September.

Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Becky Range

You have had a problem with your next-door neighbour. You have not been able to speak to
your neighbour about this. Write a letter to this neighbour. In your letter:

 Explain the problem

 Suggest a solution
 Say what action you will take if the situation does not improve

Begin as follows: Dear ... ,

Dear Mr. Stafford,

I am writing to you to complain about a problem that has recently appeared with may have been
caused by your kids.

First of all, as I have been made redundant since last month, I need to spend a lot of time at home.
However, your kids make it impossible to stay in have any peace, especially soon after they have
arrived (at) home from school. They play with a ball indoors, run around and listen to music too
loudly. I have really tried not to pay too much attention to it this and I have had hoped that things
would settle without a real need of forbidding needing to forbid them from enjoying themselves. At
the same time However, the situation tends to getis getting worse.

As I do not use a phone and I have not seen you around in/for a while, I have decided to contact to
you by post. I would like to ask whether it would be okay for you to restrain your kids and explain that
there are other people living in the house as well. Otherwise, I am will be compelled to report this
matter to the police.

I seriously hope that my letter will not create too much confusion any ill-feeling between us and
we couldcan remain asgood neighbours.

Yours sincerely,

Jack Smith
