Operating Manual of Smoke Density Test Apparatus
This manual will explain the procedure of operating the Smoke Density Test Apparatus
and the Data logging software DenSmoke. The apparatus is very much users friendly and
a test process can be carried out as stand alone or with the help of a PC. A complete test
process up to 10 minutes at sampling rate of 15 second can be carried out as stand-alone
and the test reading can be downloaded to the PC after completion of the test. The
following text will explain the step-by-step procedure to accomplish a test process.
1. The main cable of the Apparatus is plugged properly into the 220 V AC main.
2. There is no leftover particle in the sample holding platform of any previous
testing process.
3. Clean the inside of the Apparatus with clean cotton cloth for any moisture
deposit of any previous test process.
Test Procedure:
a. Turn the Burner Nozzle towards out side with the Burner Nozzle Movement
Knob.
b. Put the Gas Cylinders regulator’s button on.
c. Switch on the Burner switch on the control panel.
d. Now put a fire source on the Nozzle of the Burner and adjust the flam with the
help of the Flame Adjustment Knob.
e. After the flame is properly adjusted turn the Burner Nozzle towards the
sample with the help of Burner Nozzle Movement Knob.
f. Close the Glass door of the chamber.
9. Now let the flame burn the sample for some time until the sample starts
producing smoke. When smoking start for the sample then press the START
button on the control panel as showed above.
This will start the sampling of the density by the system. At every 15 second the
system will record the density and it will give a beep sound. The test will last for 4
minute unless otherwise set different timing through computer.
After the test is over the system will give a continuous beep sound to indicate the test
is over. Once the test is over the logged data can be viewed through the Browse
button on the control panel.
How to browse logged data:
To browse logged data of the pervious testing press the
Browse button on the control panel as showed below.
Then scroll through the reading with the help of the UP
and DOWN button. The browsing can only possible
when there is no test process is running. While the
system is in browse mode then the START button will
act as UP button and the CAL. Button will act as DOWN
button.

DenSmoke User’s Manual
DenSmoke is a very user’s friendly data logging software for the Smoke Density Test
Apparatus. Software is very much easy to use and designed to work as online and off-line
mode. Following text will explain the various options of the software.
To load the DenSmoke software double click on the DenSmoke icon on the desktop. On
the successful loading of the software following screen will come on the screen.
To calibrate the system select the Calibrate Testing Device from the Tools menu as
below.
This will start the calibration process of the system. Wait until the calibration over
message comes on the screen.
To start a new test data logging select New Data Log from the File Menu as shown
below.
Which will open a data logging windows as shown on the next page.

To start a new test process click on the Start button of the software or use the START
button on the Apparatus control panel as describe in the operating manual of the
Apparatus. This will start the test process and data logging. The data will be logged at
every 15 sec. and the representing graph of the logged data will be displayed.
SAVING RESULT: After the test is over the logged data can be saved by pressing
the SAVE button under a given file name.
PRINTING RESULT: To get print out of the test result click on the PRINT button,
which will send the output to the currently selected printer.
How to view a saved test result:
To view previously saved test result select the View Test option from the File menu as
shown below. When it ask, select the file you want to open then the data will be display
along with the graph on the screen.
Select the proper communication port to which the Smoke Density Test Apparatus is
attached/connected then click on the Set Button.
