Figure 1-1 Enterprise™ 3000 bed with safety sides

The power driven functions of height, backrest angle, tilt angle and leg
elevation are operated by simple push button controls. There are separate
handsets for the patient and carer; the carer’s handset also allows control of
tilt angle (Trendelenburg).
The bed has an attendant control panel (ACP) from which the power driven
functions can be individually disabled. Operation of the bed by the patient
is thus at the discretion of the carer.
The electrical actuators consist of a screw and nut assembly driven by a
24V d.c. motor and gearbox. Power for the actuators is derived from an a.c.
power supply. In the event of mains power being unavailable, a 24V
backup battery allows the bed to be used for short periods of time. The
power supply, control box and backup battery on mounted on a bracket
below the head end cross member.

2 OPERATIONAL MAINTENANCE
2.1 General

The equipment has been designed to be virtually maintenance-free between

service intervals. The degree of periodic cleaning and maintenance
necessary will be determined by use and condition.
Examine the bed for obvious signs of damage. If found take appropriate
remedial action.

WARNING
Disconnect the bed from the mains power supply before carrying
out cleaning procedures.

2.2 Cleaning
Wearing suitable protective clothing, clean all surfaces with a disposable
cloth dampened with hand hot water and a neutral detergent.
Start by cleaning the upper sections of the bed and work along all
horizontal surfaces. Work methodically towards the lower sections of the
bed and clean the wheels last. Take extra care to clean areas that may trap
dust or dirt.
Wipe down using clean water and dry with disposable paper towels.
Allow the cleaned parts to dry before replacing the mattress.

2.3 Disinfecting

After cleaning the bed as described above, wipe all surfaces with sodium
dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) at a concentration of 1,000 parts per million
(0.1%) of available chlorine.
In the case of pooling body fluids, e.g. blood, the concentration of NaDCC
should be increased to 10,000 parts per million (1%) of available chlorine.

Caution
Do not use abrasive compounds or pads.
Do not use phenol-based disinfectant solutions.

2-1 746-538-2
07/08
3 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
The following preventive maintenance checks and procedures should be
carried out every 12 months.
All service and repair activities must only be carried out by properly
qualified and trained persons approved by ArjoHuntleigh.
Disposal of product and components should be compliant with local
regulations.

WARNING
Before starting any maintenance activity, disconnect the bed
from the electrical power supply.
If the backup battery is fitted, the bed will still operate when the
handset buttons are pressed unless the function has been
disabled on the ACP.
Avoid skin contact with lubricants. Gloves and protective
clothing should be worn when carrying out maintenance work.

3.1 General
Examine the bed for obvious signs of damage. Make sure that all nuts, bolts
and other fastenings are secure and not missing.
Examine all flexible cables for cuts, abrasions, kinks or other deterioration.
Check the mains plug and cable for damage. If the mains plug or cable is
damaged, they must be replaced as a complete assembly. Under no
circumstances should the integral moulded plug be replaced with a
rewireable plug.

3.2 Castors and Brakes

Check the brakes for efficient operation.

Check that the steering lock operates effectively.
Poor braking or steering performance indicates that one or more castors
require adjustment or replacement.

3.3 Backup Battery

If, when the bed is operated using the batteries a beeping sound is heard,
this indicates a low charge condition. The bed should be reconnected to the

3-1 746-538-2

for 24 hours.
2. Disconnect the bed from the mains power supply.
3. Apply a load of 80kg to the mattress platform.
4. Raise and lower the mattress platform, from minimum to
maximum height, three times.
5. If the bed does not operate satisfactorily in step 4, perform steps 1
to 4 again.
If the bed again fails to operate satisfactorily, the batteries are not holding
sufficient charge and should be replaced. Refer to Chapter 6, Servicing
Instructions.

3-2 746-538-2
07/08
4 TESTING
The following serviceability tests should be performed before returning the
bed to use after service, or if any function is suspect.
These instructions should be read in conjunction with the bed user manual,
part number 746-537.
If the result of any test is unsatisfactory, investigate and take the
appropriate remedial action. Refer to Chapter 5, Troubleshooting and
Chapter 6, Servicing Instructions.

All references to left or right of the bed are when viewed from
the head end (i.e. by a patient lying on the bed).

protective clothing should be worn when carrying out
maintenance work.
The bed and its sub-assemblies are heavy and could cause
serious injury or death by crushing. When working beneath the
mattress platform, the equipment must be properly supported
with suitable lifting devices, blocks or stands.

6.1 General
The servicing procedures and data given in this section include instructions
for:
• Replacement of specific components and sub-assemblies
• Dismantling and assembly of the main structure
• Restoration of paint finish

All references to left or right of the bed are when viewed from the head
end or by a patient supine on the bed.
Procedures considered to be self-evident have not been included.
Before carrying out any servicing work, remove the end panels and
mattress platform sheets to allow easier access to components.
Do not disassemble more than is necessary to replace a defective item.
Remove old Loctite® and other adhesives from components before re-
assembly. Apply Loctite® 243 adhesive when reassembling items as
specified in Appendix A. Before applying Loctite®, clean and degrease
parts using a suitable volatile solvent, e.g. methylated spirits.
Apply lubricant to bushes and joints on assembly of items as specified in
Appendix A.
Throughout this section, numbers given in brackets refer to the Assembly
Spares Manual drawing sheet number and item number for the part. Thus
(03-5) represents Item 5 on Sheet 03.

6-1 746-538-2
07/08
Where cables are connected to actuators or the control box, the plugs are
equipped with a rubber sealing ring to keep out moisture. Connecting these
cables is made easier if a little lubricant, e.g. petroleum jelly, is applied to
the sealing ring prior to assembly. Do not allow the lubricant to
contaminate the electrical contacts.

Portable and mobile RF communication s
equipment should be used no closer to any part
of the ENTERPRISE™3000, including cables,
than the recommended separation distance
calculated from the equation applicable to the
frequency of the transmitter.

Recommended separation distance

Conducted RF 3V rms
3V d = 1.2 P
IEC 61000-4-6 150kHz to 80MHz
Radiated RF 3V/m
3V/m d = 1.2 P 80 MHz to 800MHz
IEC 61000-4-3 80MHz to 2.5GHz

d = 2.3 P 800MHz to 2.5GHz

Where P is the maximum output power rating of

the transmitter in watts (W) according to the
transmitter manufacturer and d is the
recommended separation in metres (m).

Field strengths from fixed RF transmitters, as

determined by an electromagnetic site survey,a
should be less than the compliance level in each
frequency range.b
Interference may occur in the vicinity of
equipment marked with the following symbol:

NOTE 1 At 80MHz and 800MHz, the higher frequency range applies.

NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by
absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people.
a Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land
mobile radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted
theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an
electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the
ENTERPRISE® 3000 is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the ENTERPRISE® 3000
should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed additional measures
may be necessary, such as reorienting or relocating the ENTERPRISE® 3000.

b Over the frequency range 150kHz to 80MHz, field strengths should be less than 3V/m.

Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF
communications equipment and the ENTERPRISE™ 3000
The ENTERPRISE™ 3000 is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which
radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the ENTERPRISE™
3000 can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance
between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the
ENTERPRISE™ 3000 as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of
the communications equipment.

Separation distance according to frequency of transmitter

1 1.2 1.2 2.3

10 3.8 3.8 7.3

100 12 12 23

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in
metres (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the power of the transmitter, where P is the
maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer.

NOTE 1 At 80MHz and 800MHz, the higher frequency range applies.
