A. Daily Routine
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

“Before we start our lesson for today, (One of the students will lead the prayer)
somebody please lead the prayer.”

“Please pick up the pieces of trash under (The students will pick up the pieces of
your chair and please check the alignment trash and check the alignment of their
of your chairs.” chairs)

“Okay. Miss secretary, may you please tell us (The secretary tell if there are any
if there are any absentees for today?” absentees
B. Review

“Thank you, Miss. So, before we proceed on our

today’s topic, may someone please (The students will raise their hands and
recapitulate or tell us what was our last some of them will be called)
discussion about?”

C. Lesson Proper
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

1. Motivation
“Now, I want all of you to look at this
puzzle. Now, I have a question for you.
What if a piece of this puzzle is missing,
will you be able to complete this puzzle?
Therefore, what can we conclude on this
puzzle? Yes, every piece of this puzzle is (The students will answer no. A student
important, just like in constructing our will raise his/her hand to answer for
sentences. If there will be a missing piece, conclusion)
then there will be an error.

2. Activity
“Please count from one to four and after (The students listen attentively)
that, go to your respective groups. All you
have to do is to list down your observations
on the structure of sentences in the given
excerpt”

Group 1
One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That
was all. And sixty cents of it was in (Students will follow the instructions given
pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a by the Teacher)
time by bulldozing the grocer and the
vegetable man and the butcher until one's
cheeks burned with the
silent imputation of parsimony that such
close dealing implied. Three times Della
counted it. One dollar and eighty- seven
cents. And the next day would be
Christmas.
(excerpt from O. Henry’s The Gift)

Group 2
“Here is the man with three staves, and
here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and
this card,
Which is blank, is something he carries on
his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a
ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself:
One must be so careful these days.”
(excerpt of The waste land by TS Eliot)

Group 3

“There was clearly nothing to do but flop

down on the shabby little couch and howl.
So Della did it. Which instigates the moral
reflection that life is made up of sobs,
sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles
predominating.

While the mistress of the home is gradually

subsiding from the first stage to the
second, take a look at the home. A
furnished flat at $8 per week. It did not
exactly beggar description, but it certainly
had that word on the lookout for
the mendicancy squad.”

Group 4

"My nerves are bad to-night. Yes, bad.

Stay with me.
"Speak to me. Why do you never speak.
Speak.
"What are you thinking of? What thinking?
What?
"I never know what you are thinking.
Think."
I think we are in rats' alley
Where the dead men lost their bones.
"What is that noise?"
The wind under the door.
"What is that noise now? What is the wind
doing?"
Nothing again nothing
"Do you know nothing? Do you see
nothing? Do you remember?”
"Nothing?"
(The students will raise their hands and
C. Analysis
some of them will be called)
“So now, What did you observed on the (The students will raise their hands and
structure of sentences? some of them will be called)
“Are there any missing parts or errors in
the sentence? (The students will raise their hands and
some of them will be called)
“What makes a sentence complete?”

D. Abstraction
“Sentence is a group of word that
expresses a complete thought. It has a
subject which tells about who or what is (The students listen attentively)
the sentence all about and a verb which
tells about what does the subject does or
links the subject to another important
words.”

“Sometimes, there are sentences that have

more than one subject and/or more than (The students listen attentively)
one verb. May someone please give me a
sentence?”

“Lastly, a series of words or phrases that

you think it is a sentence because of its
length is called Series Fragment. An
example is, “A pink cherry tree near the
house, red and yellow primroses along the
border and neat rectangular bed of orange
tulips.” The example given may seems to
be a complete sentence because of its (The students listen attentively)
length, yet analyzing the whole phrase will
give you the idea that it is not a sentence
since it does not give a complete thought,
specifically a verb in the given phrase.”
E. Application: "You complete me"
(The teacher will divide the class into two
groups)

fragments to make it a complete sentence.
